here's some clear-headed middle ground,
YES, look at Australia where the deaths are only at 1,006 with a total of 56,212 cases vs the US - 640,000 deaths and 39.3 million cases. Opening up recklessly is a recipe for disaster. Look at Isreal. Lockdowns hurt the economy but what else can you do when there is so much vaccine hesitancy and resistance to wearing a little mask.
What you're saying makes no sense in the context of:
Total population. The U.S. has 330 million people. Australia has 25.36 million.
The U.S. government opened up testing results to be any presumed or probable cases.
Also, the lockdowns didn't just "hurt the economy," it literally lead to actual deaths, from starvation deaths, to missed screenings for cancer and heart problems.

Per capita (that means by person or head)
There's no question that lockdowns are not good for the economy or those waiting for elective or life-saving surgeries or treatments. And people have died because those beds are being taken by people getting sick. Nurses and Dr's are treating covid patients instead of being able to tend to others.
BUT, there's a real simple solution. If you are against lockdowns, get vaccinated and wear a mask indoors, and at large public gatherings. We can all go about our business or continue to capitalize on the pandemic and the fears of people.
