Chances of an effective vaccine are slim - Don't abandon public health measures!

Reality check: It is highly unlikely we will get a vaccine for SARS-CoV2 that is 98% effective at protecting you from the virus. The FDA has said that it will approve a vaccine that is just 50% effective (similar to a flu vaccine). We don't even know yet if we'll be able to get to that level with this virus.

If we get to a vaccine, we still have no idea how long its effects can even last. If this is like other coronaviruses, it's unlikely its protection will last very long.

That means if we get a vaccine, we will already need to have the pandemic significantly more under control than it currently is.

We CANNOT abandon public health measures like wearing masks, social distancing, and STAYING HOME. Our leadership HAS to get this pandemic under control by building our capacity to test, trace and isolate cases--which other countries have already successfully done.

PLEASE do your part. Don't pretend this pandemic is over because you're tired of it. Stay home, social distance, wear a mask, and demand an actual plan from your leadership to save lives and get the spread of this virus under control.

The only way out is through. Together.
