Could it be that we can duck some of the even more scary than the disease itself, hail of outcome bullets that are heading our way in this pandemic?
Imho we can witness at the moment the "trivializers" (1) and even the PPE (personal protective equipment) "protectors" (2) and other "slow adjusters" change their talking points slowly and they are trying to undo some of the bs they are responsible for putting out there!
(1) "Trivializers"
These types that denied what was going on or at least played that they denied what was happening, for whatever reason like personal fear, personal gain, incompetence, being uninformed or even flat out stupid but also being used to being loud and heard. Blaring "It's not even as bad as the flu!", "Car accidents kill more people!" or some other kind of trying to make you feel better by telling you that there's a whole universe full of things out to kill ya and #COVID19 isn't a formidable grim reaper or the anti social figures, often in conjunction with being morally "fluid" to realize some opportunities on the way believing, no knowing that most sheep's in the herd are simply too lazy or maybe even too dumb to question what is said and decided on or the more simple pysochopat's who stopped giving a flying whatever about others when they were born saying or thinking stuff like "I am young and it only kills the elderly and I don't care".
(2) "Protectors"
Those who've tried tirelessly to "protect" the scarce good "N95 respirator" and other PPE parts for those who need it most urgently, people in health care and others on some of the frontlines of this war on #COVID19. On their way they were not shying away from shamelessly lying to the general public along the lines of "...N95 respirator masks don't even work on normal Joe, only doctors and nurses are protected by them blah blah blah...". Meaning good for those who are needing them the most because they are at high risk to "get it", but at the same time throwing all other individuals under the bus because the triaging had to start early since most officials and governments were so disastrously unprepared for this type of threat.
What unites these both groups again is their strong belief that they "know better" than the general public and not being willing to answer for their either stupid or malicious loudness in open discourse. I hope that for some in these groups though, and only if we are very lucky, they'll have to face answering for putting others in harms way in a court of law and that they made OpSec errors in establishing their safety nets in form of scapegoats and other sneaky means!
What I meant with a hail of bullets going down range and straight at us, that are the mediate and consequential mid to long term outcomes of this pandemic.
Reasons for this may be unbearable high dead tolls/CFR's, possible existential supply chain interruptions, loss of income/jobs, feeling bored, feeling stressed, lost perspective, grudge, envy and so on. A buildup of high social pressure so to say that could even be dangerous if things go way better than they are expected to happen.
In some countries/regions the struggle and fight for things needed already started to show it's nasty face and I'm not talking about people screaming, pushing and shoving about a pack of toilet paper.
If functioning, effective control over, at least basic security, organization and structures in our societies is hurt or even lost, #COVID19 may very well be just a little spark to what can easily turn into a wildfire with much more dramatic things we must survive beyond the virus itself.
For the moment let's hope that the things that can be done, either continued efforts by those already practicing them or starting right now, will happen!
- Continue enforceable lock downs and other means to ensure social distancing.
- Start or continue to tell people the truth as can be seen and as we are told in first hand accounts about in Italy, Spain or the USA for instance!
- Stop lying about the effectiveness of PPE and rather try to supply everyone with the needed protective gear!
- Help those in need quickly and unbureaucratic because they've lost income for instance!
- Stop trying to shame those who use PPE to protect others and themselves!
- Being kind and helpful to each other!
Nonetheless to me it seems it can't hurt to think about a little more extended preparedness for this ongoing pandemic or things that could happen in it's aftermath!
