Trigger warning - but I'm curious - the centralization of projects on hive is insane

in #crypto3 years ago

Is the only token in the hive ecosystem that's worth a lick from a decentralized point of view hive & hive dollars? Every other project that I'm seeing on hive is centralized to a small group or even a single dev... I know dlux and hive-engine and 3speak are working on this, but a majority of the rest of em.... If the devs were to pass on from this realm, their projects would pass with them... When I first came into the blockchain space, I was enthralled with the decentralization and open source ethos of the space. As time goes on and I spend more time in cryptoland, I see more and more capitalization of unoriginal ideas. We should be here for the love of here with positive intent for all, not selfish us vs "they/them" ideology.

I love the art of war and it's business parallels. don't get me wrong, a family has to eat.. but there is a great divid between working for what you need to function and working for a pile of trash you can't take with you when ya leave, leaving behind a bunch of hawks looking to loot your corpse before it's burned or buried. And that's just not productive...

I'm not saying everyone should live a minimal life or that noone should hoard all of whatever resource they choose as their token shiny object... If it's for the love of it and there is passion there, rock on..

But try and be mindful of keeping the hawks at bay when you pass on to the next life, or project of its own... Leave behind something that you aren't the main attraction and others are there to be the caretakers of the past. Some people love that role!

I try as I may always to give as much as I can, helping others is good work, especially when it's helping others, together.

Anyways rant over.. just a weird thought that I figured I'd share.

Sort:

Decentralization doesn't mean that every project needs to be an unorganized group of volunteers. The point is that anyone is free to start their own project on Hive, while you'd need Justin Sun's permission on Steem.

It's true that too many tokens are issued to finance projects - who doesn't like the chance to print your own money? That comes with the freedom we have, there's nothing you can do about it except educate people about the value of tokens.

Oh, I took that opportunity once and minted the SELF token, gave em all to my accounts, bought some on another of my accounts and now I'm a millionaire!!! Granted the coin is centralized to my wallets, but I'm rich! LoL.

I'm just overly paranoid or cautious about a singular individual controlling it all, or a small group who could have unsavory actors... Of which I've been hearing rumors of some who are doing exactly that...

Not that I don't like loading up some risk after pulling the metaphorical trigger. But I write that off as a loss from the second I buy into said game. But it's not a sustainable or productive outcome more often than not.

And yea, steem is a wonky beast, but it'll come around to bite em in the ass later I'm sure. Unless he just lays a small fine to shut up the officials and moves along on his path, eventually the internet will forget the past and those on the edges screaming 'steem is bad' will look like jealous lunatics... Unfortunately.

With all that said, I'm still bullish on hive, and definitely bearish on steem. As well as steem appears to be doing from a outside perspective, we know it's all sorts of fucked up.

lol. you are right but not all project is like that. an example is CTP, SPORTS and LEO. this project gave room for virtually everyone and it is left to you to join the car or risk being left out for life. I didn't join early but I am thankful for where I am now.

Would leo survive if khal vanished? What about ctp and Jon? And I don't know much about sports aside from actifit having dumped loads of it on me in the past, but I imagine it's much the same.

It's just odd to me how people invest so much into some projects without anticipating unforseen situations, maybe it's just my own upbringing and always being fearful of the house burning down as my grandma reminded us often of her losing everything early in life and having to rebuild..

to answer your question I think Leo will survive without Khal as other projects have been built around Leo, an example is LBI and for the CTP and the same is applicable. at times these heads are just there to make sense of numerous idea birth by others. they still need a team to back them up and these projects are beginning to see the importance of having fresh ideas from numerous places

I think these projects will survive regardless as long as people create a new initiative to make it move. it's about the people and what they do.
