The Symbol for One Satoshi. - Originally posted April 12, 2016

There's been much debate over the symbol for one bitcoin. The de-facto symbol is a B with lines vertically down through it. A new unicode is coming soon, U+20BF, scheduled for June 2016. This is undoubtedly bullish.

What's more, the roles of symbols should not be underestimated. Symbols are powerful. They can immediately conjure passions. They can immediately convey world views. They can convey a great deal of information with their presence. They can be seared into our minds or branded onto our bodies. Symbols matter.

But, this talk of bitcoin and symbols also begs the far-reaching question…"What about a satoshi?" If bitcoin continues to grow and solidify, dealing in satoshi will may eventually become the go-to unit. To an extent, this is already being done. For instance, some gambling sites take bids or offer payouts in satoshi units. Or, bitcoin exchanges may offer prices in BTC down to eight decimal places. That is, by showing the number of satoshi.

To that end, a satoshi unit symbol would be beneficial. A proposal has been offered on reddit to use the Japanese Katakana letter "shi" シ which finishes "satoshi", as in サ ト シ

This symbol already has both a unicode entity: シ and a hex entity: &#;x30B7

That it resembles a smiling face is just all-the-better.
