A Dash of Sult N Papper 10/19/20> Thanksgiving planning… plenty to be thankful for here.

There is a...

There is a point in time each year when Daisy and I sit down and plan out the holidays and the first holiday we address is Thanksgiving. We had that discussion late last week on Friday evening and the first item on the agenda was turkey dinner.

Our family has a lot to be thankful for this year. Despite the COVID shut down of the economy here in the US I was fortunate to keep my employment. At the onset of the shutdown we feared that the industry I’m employed in would take a big hit financially as the shutdown was starting when business usually started ramping up for the spring.

Things started out...

Things started out slowly but by the middle of May when people realized that the lock-down was going to carry on through the summer things began to change.

Money earmarked for summer vacations by families was used to enhance their backyards since they would be spending the summer in those backyards. Business not only caught up with the normal seasonal demand it exceeded it by double digits and remained strong all summer long.

Another factor that...

Another factor that contributed to my side business doing well was the low mortgage interest rates fueled a housing boom here in Texas.

New homes sales have been at an all time high for the last three months and the bulk of my side business work is tied to new home sales. The perfect storm that was COVID19 ended up benefiting our family but we know we were very, very fortunate and most people weren’t from COVID19.

So our discussion...

So our discussion Friday night not only was what we were going to do for Thanksgiving dinner but what could we do to help some families in need. We set a number of turkeys we plan on ordering and have filled all the spots except for two.

I like running contests on here but this is not “contest worthy” if you know what I mean.

Daisy and I...

Daisy and I would like to provide a smoked turkey from our family to two families in need of a turkey for Thanksgiving.

We figure most people don’t like to admit when times are rough financially and would not be inclined to respond on an open forum like HIVE.

With that said, if you are in need of a turkey for Thanksgiving dinner send me an email before Nov.1, 2020 to [email protected] . We don’t need or want too much information either, just let us know how many people are to be fed. If you care to share your plight that is up to you, we trust that if you send an email that you are in need.

Put “Thanksgiving Turkey” in the subject line of the email so I don’t miss it.

On Nov.1...

On Nov.1 we’ll select two families from the emails to receive a turkey and we’ll contact those selected by email to get your shipping address so we can have the turkey shipped to you in time for Thanksgiving dinner.

The turkey is fully cooked and just needs heated in the oven before serving. The turkey would arrive the Friday before Thanksgiving and would need to refrigerated but not frozen until Thanksgiving Day.

No other mention will be made about this once we have received at least two emails from people in need. We aren’t doing this for publicity by any means; we just are thankful we are in the position to be able to help.

One last thing; this offer of the turkey is for folks in continental USA (48 states) only. Shipping restrictions come into play so we can’t get around those.

Have a great week,
Sult

Don't forget; if you want your very own ‘Vote Guzbuck in 2020" t shirt or your own “Guzbuck..I’m good.” coffee mug then check out the guzbuck_shop here.

What a wonderful and generous way of saying thank you for your blessings Sult! There's been some surprising bonuses from Covid19 lockdowns but many were not so fortunate as you rightly say.
One thing I found surprising here in SA, was that some pharmaceutical companies had to lay down staff as people weren't getting the usual winter flu and colds so their sale figures dropped in that sector, but I'm sure the natural medicine manufacturers benefited as everyone started taking preventative/immune boosters in a big way!

My mother always said when you can give do it. So I have always tried to stay on the side of good karma. I just ordered a book on natural cures and remedies; we are heading into our winter season soon and looking to see what I might be unaware of on that front.
Thanks for all the support take care,
Sult

Well, that's right friendly of you.

I would love a turkey... but i will be eating alone.

It is weird that ThanksGiving is a holiday i like to remember. (it is always good to give thanks)

Unlike other holidays where i just feel lonely.
Even though the start of Thanks Giving was because Lincoln ordered troops to shoot down the streets of New York to disperse the mobs forming...
It is still good to give thanks.

Further, this holiday seems to be less commercialized... well, the stuff on sale is usually the stuff i buy anyways, and that turkey (often free with minimum purchase) is always welcome.

Enjoy.

Thanksgiving is probably my favorite holiday too. Plenty of good memories and good food. Thanks for the continued support and thoughtful comment.

That has to be one of the best ideas I've heard in a really long time, Sult. Thanks to you and the family for being so kind. There are surely going to be lots of people in need this year. Speaking of gifts, I'm finally getting around to using that Starbucks gift card from last year (thanks again). I was planning on using it at airports as I was traveling but since 2020 has been the kind of year it's been that never happened. We're halfway to Ohio, spending the night in Schaumberg, IL and will stop through the drive-thru tomorrow for a coffee and a breakfast sandwich. Have a wonderful weekend!

Well enjoy the coffee and travel safe. My oldest boy just returned today (Friday) from Berlin, Ohio. He was up there in Amish country on a buying trip for the furniture store he is employed at here in Houston. Those Amish people are quite the craftsmen, good solid hand made furniture.
Sult

We certainly did! We had breakfast in Schaumberg and still have a small balance. Ah, yes, there are tons of Amish communities here in Ohio. My parents have an Amish-made dining room table and chairs and they look great after twenty or so years. Hope you're well, my friend!

Damn. Or maybe I should say guzbuck. That's just a glorious offer. Good on you Pappers.

I'll say guzbuck because I got my shirt yesterday :) The coffee cup hasn't showed it's mug around here yet, but I'm thinking today is the day!

I believe I'll wear the shirt in public tomorrow, I'll let you know the reaction.

I have much to be thankful for. I just spent parts of 3 days with my 'new' brother and his wife. What a cool deal, we are finding more and more ways we are alike. I'm planning on being in Washington for an extended stay in June unless my Sister's health requires me to go earlier. Either way, I'm really looking forward to the trip already.

Much as I miss having you around here I'm ok with your absence knowing that it's because you are busy and just crushing it business wise.

So Okay. The coffee cups have just arrived and I have tested one! It held coffee, kept it warm enough for me to drink the whole thing, got a big enough handle for me to get two fingers firmly in it and makes a statement.

I'm thinking that makes it just guzbucking near perfect!

I hope you were able to take advantage of that discount and I really appreciate your patronage of both the blog and the guzbuck_shop.
I to have a couple of the mugs and they are exactly as you described. I got the same shirt as you purchased but it was a little tight on me so my youngest boy is now the proud owner of it and I need to order an XL instead of the L this next time. But that isn't uncommon for me on sizing, some brands the L is perfect and others its not, the shirt seems like a quality t shirt and he'll wear it until it falls apart or the printing wears off.
I'm sure the folks at the N B Smokehouse are going to pleased when I get done ordering ,with those two turkeys promised on here it makes 10 in total, last year I only purchased three. We have really been blessed this year and it is the right thing to do for us. The youngest boy volunteers up at the church food pantry on Wednesdays and the church has a waiting list of people needing food. We could just as easily been on that list if it wasn't for the grace of God.
Glad to hear you got to spend time with your brother. Hope your sister the best too with whatever she is facing on the health front.
Friday my partner has a meeting with some folks from the United Arab Emirates about licensing our product for use in their country. Hopefully he can nail down a deal as they have been negotiating for better than six months now. He tells me we are very close and the fact that they are coming here tells me that they must be serious to some degree. Talking seven figures up front money and royalty on each litre so it ain't Dup feed. My partner has already built a bio-diesel refinery plant before and he has the knowledge, contacts and experience to take a group over there and built a plant and get it up and running to produce it over there. So keep your fingers crossed when they aren't holding that guzbuck mug.
I think I've covered both of your replies in this one response and it is damn near midnight so I'm signing off.
Thanks for all the support, truly appreciated friend!
Sult

Wow! I really hope those dups come home to roost! 7 figures is a fair amount, hardly matters what the individual digits are :)

I drank my coffee exclusively out of a guzbuck mug this morning. First time in at least 20 years that I was at home and didn't use the Tweed Towing mug. It really is a comfortable cup.

My T shirt is a little snug, like you it's not out of the ordinary. I wore it this morning and didn't get a single comment. Next time out I'll force the issue :)

I did get the discount btw. All good.

Yes if those dups roost I'll be flush for sure. My partner has all the investment in the equipment and the testing we had to have done and he is use to dealing in large numbers. His specialty has been in mergers and acquisitions.

Back when I first met him he took a small software company the owner was wanting to sell and he grew the business to double the size in about 15 months, found a buyer for the company. The purchasing company retained him and less than a year later he flipped for them. When it was all said and done he facilitated the sale of the that company 4 times in less than 6 years and made a good penny each time.

He knows how to sell for sure, he got Disney to do a movie about his daughters that even up until a few years ago was the most watched movie on the Disney Channel of all time. Right On Track was the name of the movie. His oldest daughter is closing in on her fourth World Championship in the NHRA Pro Stock class. It will be close and probably go down to the wire, so I hope I didn't jinx her by mentioning it.
I never asked him how much on the movie but he did say one time that the girls were pretty well set financially from it. The wife and I went to the world premier showing of that film. Somewhere we still have it on DVD, the kids enjoyed watching it plenty of times because it was part factual and part fiction so I had to tell them which was which.
Damn, I am rambling on and it is 12:20 AM , adios amigo,
Sult
