The #Decentralized-Internet Contest

The world is beginning to change. In 2020 we saw a significant shift to a decentralized web. We may still be in diapers, but we are starting to see significant efforts to achieve this. HIVE is doing an excellent job. The SPEAK network, which is coming soon, will also help with the decentralization of the internet.

With all of this, I believe that it is time to hear from the community. That is why I chose to join HackerNoon's Decentralized Interner Writing Contest and run our version in HIVE.

Here are the HackerNoons’s Contest Rules & Guides:

Who can enter the contest?

You must be 18+ to enter. There are no location restrictions, you can enter the contest from anywhere in the world.

Do I have to post under my real name?

Real names can add validity, but meritocracy trumps all. If you create a new Hacker Noon account under a pseudonym and if you are a finalist, we’ll contact you privately to award your prize.

What can I write about?

Almost anything under the sun, as long as it follows Hacker Noon’s general submission guidelines.

How long will the contest run?

The contest will run for a total of one year - from April 1st, 2021 to December 31st, 2021, with prizes awarded at the end of each month.

Can I submit more than one entry to the contest?

Yes. Contestants can submit as many #decentralized-internet stories as they want each month. The more, the merrier; the more you submit, the more chances you have of winning. However, you can only win 1 prize per month.

If I already won a prize, can I still enter the next session?

Yes. Even if you won a prize in the first session, feel free to enter the 2nd and 3rd sessions and try to score a hat-trick!

Prizes for HackerNoon’s Contest

Winner for the best story gets $1,500
First Runner-up gets $1,000
Second Runner-up gets $500
Third Runner-up gets $500

(These prizes are rewarded by HackerNoon.)

These are some examples of stories about decentralizing the internet:

All of these rules are specifically for the HackerNoon contest. But the idea is to also make a contest here in HIVE and participate in both.

Rules to Participate in the HIVE Version of this Contest:

  • Write a story or make a video talking about the Decentralized Internet.

  • You can share your experience on the decentralized web and talk about your favorite dapps and websites.

  • Only original content based on your experiences.

  • On your Hive post or 3Speak.tv video, include the tags #decentralized-internet as one of the first four tags.

  • Share your post on Twitter using the hashtags: #HIVE, #DecentralizedInternet, and other related hashtags to your post. If you are active in other traditional Social Media sites, you can also share your post there.

  • If you make a video on 3Speak, upload a short clip on Twitter, and then add a link under the Tweet. Videos get a lot more views if uploaded directly to Twitter, and to see the rest, they will need to go to your 3Speak profile.

Prizes for the HIVE Contest Version

First Place: $100 in $HIVE
Second Place: $50 in $HIVE
Third Place: $25 in $HIVE

Hey Dan,

Thanks for the heads up on this competition, it looks right up my alley.

For me, the important one is actually getting content that talks about Hive's place within the decentralized internet, on Hackernoon.

We all get so caught up in our own little Hive bubble, talking about Hive to the already converted.

The key however, is to post branded Hive posts elsewhere and actually post unbranded, outward facing content on Hive which brings new traffic in.

For example, check out my Quora answer to the question what is a decentralized social network?.

Just like I spoke about above, I've posted about Hive on an external platform, trying to bring outside traffic in (any Quora upvotes will help the answer's visibility, so if you've got an account obviously give it a vote).

I'll be taking the opportunity to talk Hive on Hackernoon as a part of this contest and definitely encourage others here to do the same.

Hive has a huge role to play within the decentralized internet and it's up to us to get the word out... Not just milk our own rewards pool in an echo chamber.

It all sounds great! rewards all around. I'm sure it will be a great experience for the participants!!!! But what I was most excited to read is that great improvements are coming for HIVE with the new SPEAK network.

This is a great contest sir , I would love to take part in this contest. Thanks a lot for hosting the contest sir.

Wow, I like this... I will definitely participate. Decentralized internet is the future without a doubt and Hive will become a consolidated and pioneer platform.

Interesting initiative, helps to acquire discipline and fosters creativity.

I know little bit about hacking used to hack games back in the days for some free gyms it's it's been awhile since I did that kind of thing

Esto es calidad. Theycallmedan ayuda bastante a los usuarios de habla hispana, y le estamos muy agradecidos. Dios e bendiga, pide este senil de 67 años. Yo le tengo mucho cariño.

Its great opportunity for everyone to participate and express your talent to know about you how good it will be.

I don't know if it's just me but I can't enter at New Hacker Noon. When I click enter it only gives me an error message. Y_Y

Gracias @theycallmedan por todo el apoyo que nos haz brindado a mi y a la comunidad. Lamentablemente no se mucho del tema que propones en la publicación, pero seguro que pronto leeré mucho al respecto en Hive ;).

thank you very much for the information I really liked this initiative and I hope it will continue.

Excelente iniciativa, nos motiva a participar y aprender de la tecnología, usos y alcance con vista hacia el futuro / Excellent initiative, motivates us to participate and learn about technology, uses and scope with a view to the future. https://t.co/PpWCtMf1zy?amp=1, suerte a todos! 👏

Dude chill... This contest is by @theycallmedan, not by @threespeak. Stop assuming things, please.

And spoiler alert, the SPEAK Network is not going to be only about video, 3Speak will be only one of the applications.
