Cool! My mom was Bavarian, my daddy American. She never taught me German properly; we spoke English at home. After hanging around Ramstein AFB long enough I learned it "aufgeschnappt" quite well, except the writing. Folker and I also speak English, and the dog, too, for that matter :) And now he wants me to learn Hungarian! I should turn in my passport and get one from the U.N. ;)

Can tell you: To learn hungarian language is very hard, from the grammar-side its like estonian. I studied two year togehter with my sister in Budapest in the early 90 ties, my niece is studying there right now, understand more words in ungarian than in estonian.
at the second wedding of my sister i had to make s speech in ungarian, due to a lot of friends which came to this wedding, the ungarians had much fun with my accent😂, but at the end was everybody drunk😂.
Then i had some tennisplayers form ungary over some years which played in my Team, always fun, because i was the only one, who understood if they did some ungarian curses.
You dog will be very suprised if you start to talk ungarian with him.
(Folker hier mit konfisziertem Handy) Du siehst, ich arbeite schon eifrig an Estland. 😀 Das mit der Sprache ist echt ein Problemchen. Wir haben schonmal so reingeschnuppert, aber hier im Saarland gibt es keine vernünftigen Kurse.
Eestlane (danke Google) gehört glaub ich wie Ungarisch zum finno-ugrischen Sprachstamm, da leuchtet das mit der Schwierigkeit ein. Angst macht uns das aber nicht, es wird sich schon finden.
Ich habe auf einer Hochzeit in Llanfair PG vor vielen Jahren mal in einer Nacht Walisisch gelernt, zumindest bildete ich mir das nach dem 6. oder 7. Bier ein 😀 Danach schreckt mich linguistisch nichts mehr. Den Namen kann ich heute noch singen und buchstabieren:

Kein Witz! Hingefahren, um das Bahnhofsschild zu fotografieren, nachmittags zum Chorfestival eingeladen und abends auf einer Hochzeit getanzt.
😂😂 gut walisisch-keltisch dürfte ähnlich schwer sein, aber mit !BEER geht vieles.

Folker is sitting here and he just told me all about your Estonia project. Congratulations, way to go! I think I will stick with the Hungarian plan for now, but I'm open for suggestions.
As to the dog, he had the occasional "baszd meg" thrown at him when he wasn't good! We take our language practice serious around here 🤣 Right now he's quite ill with a septic arthritis in his knee after a botched cruciate ligament replacement so we must cut him some slack.

Hungary is definitly a place where you can go, i am the "keresztapa" =Taufpate of the oldest son of one of my best and oldest friends, who lives in sopron with his big family, we visit them once a year or so.
Will make some posts about estonia if we are finished with the log-house.

Wie den Balten um seine Sprachkenntnisse beneide in Zeiten wie diesen. Denn mit Altgriechisch und Französisch kommst Du vom Regen in die Traufe und mit Latein nirgendwo mehr hin.
Seit 10 Jahren weigere ich mich polnisch zu lernen. Die Sprache ist einfach unaussprechlich. Über ein mleko und dobce bin ich bislang nicht gekommen.
Ein wenig hoffe ich ja noch das Deutschland die Kurve kriegt nur der Glaube schwindet immer mehr.
