Zusammenfassung
- In den vergangenen Jahrzehnten wurden immer wieder Umweltzusammenbrüche prognostiziert: Die Prognosen haben sich jedoch allesamt als falsch erwiesen.
- Seit den 1970er Jahren ist der Anteil der Menschen, die in extremer Armut leben, von rund 50 Prozent auf weniger als 10 Prozent zurückgegangen, obwohl die Weltbevölkerung in dieser Periode um mehr als 4 Mrd. Menschen zugenommen hat. Dieser Fortschritt fand nicht statt, weil wir die Natur aggressiver ausgebeutet haben. Im Gegenteil: Seit den 1970er Jahren pflegen wir im Westen mit dem Planeten einen wesentlich schonenderen Umgang.
- So sind uns etwa die natürlichen Ressourcen entgegen aller Warnungen nicht ausgegangen. Einer der Gründe dafür ist, dass wir immer besser darin werden, mit immer weniger immer mehr zu produzieren. In reichen Ländern verbrauchen wir heute jedes Jahr weniger Aluminium, Nickel, Kupfer, Stahl, Stein, Zement, Sand, Holz, Papier, Dünger, Wasser, Anbauflächen und fossile Brennstoffe.
- Einmal abgesehen vom Kohlendioxid haben wir in den wohlhabenderen Ländern eine dramatische Verbesserung bei den restlichen Emissionen erreicht: Die Gesamtemissionen der gewichtigsten Schadstoffe in der Luft wurden seit 1970 in den USA und Europa um mehr als zwei Drittel reduziert.
- Verantwortlich für diese erfreuliche Entwicklung sind geschützte Eigentumsrechte, Preissignale sowie Forschungs- und Innovationsfreiheit. Wie der Entwicklungsökonom Julian Simon erklärte, unterschätzen wir immer den menschlichen Einfallsreichtum in einem Umfeld der Freiheit.

- Since the 1970s, the proportion of people living in extreme poverty has declined from about 50 percent to less than 10 percent, even though the world's population has increased by more than 4 billion people during this period. - Protected property rights, price signals, and freedom of research and innovation are responsible for this encouraging development. As development economist Julian Simon explained, we always underestimate human ingenuity in an environment of freedom.

- En las últimas décadas se han predicho una y otra vez colapsos medioambientales: Sin embargo, todas las previsiones han resultado ser erróneas.
- Desde la década de 1970, la proporción de personas que viven en la pobreza extrema se ha reducido de alrededor del 50% a menos del 10%, a pesar de que la población mundial ha aumentado en más de 4.000 millones de personas durante este período. Este progreso no se ha producido porque hayamos explotado la naturaleza de forma más agresiva. Al contrario: desde los años 70, los occidentales tenemos un enfoque mucho más cuidadoso del planeta.

- Los derechos de propiedad protegidos, las señales de precios y la libertad de investigación e innovación son los responsables de este alentador desarrollo. Como explicó el economista del desarrollo Julian Simon, siempre subestimamos el ingenio humano en un entorno de libertad.

That's quite an information. Man certainly has the power to destroy and save any thing, any time. If we learn to care our environment, the environment will give us back with love. I think the sense of responsibility is above every attribute that helps saving us our atmosphere
