Blockchain and diplomas

in #diploma2 years ago (edited)

It's been noticed long ago that blockchains can bring value for the storage and use of credentials such as diplomas. It used to be that when you got a diploma, badge, certificate or other credential it was a paper object on which the award was printed. Well, that's still the case more often than not, but nowadays there are also electronic certificates. If you need to prove that you earned a Cisco or IBM or MS certificate after a training you can probably refer to a unique ID in the database of these companies. Anyone wanting to check that you indeed have obtained that certificate should be able (with your permission) to check that is true. If that is not yet always the case, it will be in the near future.

The issue with that model though is that "checking" depends on the availability of the issuer database. Now Cisco and IBM and MS are probably not in immediate danger of disappearing but I for instance obtained a "Business Analyst" certificate from WebMethods and that company has been acquired and although their product is still used I can't prove online that I'm certified (I still have the paper version though).

Blockchain is supposed to last forever (we hope so at least) and enforce data ownership so if a certificate is stored on a blockchain it belongs to you and you can prove you are certified for as long as the blockchain is running.

So here is a piano diploma my daughter was awarded last year by the Luxembourg city Conservatory. It's called "2eme mention" (comes before "Première Mention" or "First Mention") and she got a "Good" qualifier.

The added value of Hive in comparison with most blockchains which only store hashes of documents is that if someone looks for a young pianist with at least a "2eme mention" they can search and find this post and can contact the author.

I'll link here the previous diploma I posted, in flute, so I can keep track more easily:

Dear @sorin.lite, we need your help!

The Hivebuzz proposal already got important support from the community. However, it lost its funding a few days ago when the HBD stabilizer proposal rose above it.

May we ask you to support it so our team can continue its work?
You can do it on Peakd, Ecency,

Hive.blog / https://wallet.hive.blog/proposals
or using HiveSigner.

All votes are helpful and yours will be much appreciated.
Thank you!

Wouldn't you say that the HBD stabilizer proposal is more important than HiveBuzz? I mean, HiveBuzz is fun and all but objectively speaking, I would rather support HBD stabilizer

Wouldn't you say that the HBD stabilizer proposal is more important than HiveBuzz?

No, that's not our point.
We are only saying that with such a high ranking the HBD stabilizer proposal eats up all DHF funds and this prevents other proposals like Hivebuzz's from being funded.
Lowering its ranking a little bit would allow our proposal to regain its funding while the HBD Stabilizer continues to fully plays its role. Both can work together.
