With the proliferation of online courses it has become very easy to teach yourself any skill that you wish to learn. Many of these online courses are offered at extremely reasonable prices. You may even find some excellent courses offered for free.
Here is an example of a person with a PhD in neuroscience transiting from neuroscience to data science with no prior knowledge of coding. Armed with prior knowledge and experience in healthcare and with a newly acquired basic skills, she was well positioned to secure a Data Scientist job in a healthcare startup. .
She is a testament to show that anyone, with the sufficient determination and discipline, can learn data science.
