In this shared article Rodney Joffe explores the huge potential for IOT to disrupt the cybersecurity risks.

With the proliferation of IOT comes the attendant increase in connected devices and  data (personal and corporate) of all sorts.

It will be foolish to think that these connected devices are foolproof. They are bound to contain defects caused by defect in design, material or workmanship at manufacturing stage or through a defect in installation. It gets worse when the device is manufactured by a third party and installed by a third party, which is usually the case. These defects are the vulnerabilities that cybercriminals depend on for unauthorized access to networks.

Additionally the data that is generated is huge and when this data is processed using the knowledge discovery processes it becomes extremely valuable. This data needs to be secured at every stage of its production in accordance with,, at the minimum, the current regulations. Failing to do so, could mean hefty penalties from the authorities accompanied by an even worse nightmare - brand damage.
