Once you are in your 60s chances are your health and fitness levels wouldn't be on par with that of someone in the 20s or 30s. Ageing affects your reaction time, balance and coordination, strength, aerobic endurance and more. How much it has affected you depends on your lifestyle and your health conditions.

Even if your current health and fitness condition is not at the optimum level for your age, there is nothing to despair, says Julie Broderick, Assistant Professor of Physiotherapy at Trinity College, Dublin. It is possible to be physically more active regardless of your age, health and fitness conditions. Your determination to exercise by getting onto some kind of physical activity or formal exercise routine is what counts.
