From the early 60s to the 70s Malaysia used to produce world class badminton players. During those days the badminton world was controlled by the Malaysians and Indonesians.

Then gradually Malaysia lost its shine. From what we hear politics, race and religion got intermingled in the selection of players and not selection based on merits. Ever since, you hardly hear of Malaysian players excelling in Badminton or for that matter in most of the other sports too.
