From a reading this article we get the impression that India plans to remove the custodial sentences for breaches of the Income Tax Act and the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. and retain only the penalties and fines.
We believe this is in line with the laws in many other countries where such offences are considered civil offences and not criminal offences.
It should augur well for their attempts to attract more foreign direct investments.
