If only Ned Scott would have been dealt with Steemit's marketing decently, things might have been different...

If you visit Steemit (without logging in), you can read the following (the current marketing) under every blog post:
"Authors get paid when people like you upvote their post.
If you enjoyed what you read here, create your account today and start earning FREE STEEM!"

"Sign up. Get STEEM!"

I think that Steemit should not have been and should not be marketed with the money earning opportunity. Or at least not in this form/way. Saying "start earning FREE STEEM" is very bad. It is not free. People put either a lot of time and effort to create content to earn Steem, or they put money investments in it. Either way, everyone is invest something into Steem. So, I think that this marketing is very bad for Steemit in every aspect, and this marketing is attracting mostly the selfish and the greedy people. You can see it in the statistics. Nowadays most of the users are focusing only on their own blog posts, but they do not care about other people's posts. Nowadays there are 30-32 000 daily active users, 40 000+ posts per day, but the average number of comments is only around/about three. And most of those comments are bot, bot-like, spam, spam-like comments. The majority of the posts are either overlooked or ignored. There are too many writers/content creators, but almost no readers/content consumers. This results in a lot of disappointed users, who left (and still leaving) Steemit and the Steem blockchain. Maybe if only Ned Scott would have been dealt with Steemit's marketing decently, things might have been different... Do you agree?

Totally agree with you. I usually prefer to read crypto news on Steemit, instead of going to Facebook. I feel like it’s still a niche but it’s growing at the same time. By the time they add on the main website the option to log in using google account, things WILL get different.

Growing? More and more content creators are coming in, but almost (or literally) no content consumers, and many content creators are leaving. There is almost no user retention. Nowadays I have 1037 followers on the Steem blockchain, but most of them are inactive nowadays. They left Steemit (and the Steem blockchain) long (months, maybe more than one year) ago. I would not call this "growing". Nowadays I see quite the opposite on Steemit. Nowadays I (and many other people) do not even use it Steemit, but we will see. Maybe the things will really soon change around Steemit.

While I agree with you that the choice of the words "Sign up and Earn free steem" is not ideal and may only attract people who are only interested in making a quick buck, I honestly do not know what marketing slogan I would like myself.

I can think of some. For example the freedom of speech, no censorship, very long decentralized content preserving, etc. In terms of money: Free and fast transactions. Steemit should have been/should be marketed with the advantages of the Steem blockchain.

Especially the freedom of speech part is great! But I think it is difficult to market this to ordinary people. As long as "normal" platforms like reddit are not so obvious censoring content.
