Some random drawing studies

in #drawing2 years ago

I noticed my skills in drawing is getting rusty so I decided I should just spend my free time for drawing studies instead of spending it on other things like playing Zelda or whatever. It makes me improve on my proportions, tonal values, etc and also on how I use digital as a medium. There's still a lot of techniques and brushes I need to explore in Procreate so these exercises will be a helpful thing to do.

Here are some of the studies I did:

I don't have any focus this time. Just anything really - eyes, body poses, clothing, etc.. Tho it's more helpful if I focus on human anatomy.

I also don't use the color picker as an exercise for my eyes to pick the proper colors manually. This is also an essential skill for my traditional painting stuff so even though I could just pick the colors in the photo references, I don't use it.

Hand sketches are necessary too. When I was in college, we were required to have "visual diary" which requires us to make any sketches everyday. Anything can be done as long as your eyes and hands are moving and doing the exercise and it made my skills improve a lot in a small amount of time.

I tried using the markers on Procreate for a change lol and it's really interesting that it looks and works exactly like a marker. Like damn. I struggle with markers in traditional but also struggle with it in digital hahah cos it works just like markers.

As you can see I've also been practicing with skin tones cos black and white skins (in my drawings) have been boring lately lol.

The references are from Pinterest but I will get some references in live or in my random pics or whatever next. I aspire to do this more often to improve my skills cos thinking about concepts is exhausting. :p
