Dutch officials have announced plans to allow doctors to end the lives of terminally ill kids under the age of 13.
The current age is set at 12 and over, but new plans being laid out by the Dutch Government will allow doctors to end the lives of terminally ill children over the age of 12 months.
Dutch health minister Hugo de Jonge said:
“In a small number of cases, palliative care isn’t sufficient. Because of that, some children suffer unnecessarily without any hope of improvement.”
Which I understand, terminally ill children can often suffer unnecessarily, sometimes maybe death is kinder. But here lies the problem, who decides if a terminally ill 12-month baby should die?
It's an awful topic to consider, let alone discuss rationally, but it does need discussion.

However, lawmakers are not expected to vote on the regulation, which will be included in existing law.
