Aleksa's Book Review: Business Model Generation

The difference between a business model and a product is very important in my mind right now, as I'm growing more capable in designing products, but I'm unable to understand the monetisation system therefor...yet. This book does help a lot in doing that - it notes the basic elements every business model must have.

However, after having read Dr. De Bono's methods on creative thinking and problem solving, the methods outlined here for the creation of new business models tend to pale in comparison. This is not to say that the book does not have its value - for it certainly does - only that for the maximum output one ought to wed it with lateral thinking methods.

The book also borrows from several other tomes that I've perused - the Long Tail, Free as a Revolutionary Price, as well as well-received subjects of visual storytelling and similar strategies are mentioned. The book does nothing wrong per se, but it is less than the sum of its parts which is ironic given its message of avoiding that mistake when creating a product and business model.
