At the rate we going, it never going to arrive into the world. And we just waiting for phase 0 of eth 2.0 lmao. Phase 0 just starts a sep sidechain that lets you prelock your Eth one way into the new chain. You earn some interest but you basically can't sell it via normal eth ways. Then after a while the current chain will be merged into 2.0 and boom POS. That right it going to take years before POS even comes.....
Second layers are going to be needed the problem is that you need the DAPP(Defi apps too!!!!) to be built on the second layer otherwise no scale. Second layers act like their own networks for the most part....

ETH and BTC are hostages to their own network effect. It's hard to change anything when everyone is using your platform (
I have hope that due to the way LN is designed it will work out better. As Bitcoin switches to a one network second layer solution, scaling affect can happen. it CAN work better but their isn't much incentive to work on it. Why switch when no good wallets exist? So only a few LN orinated comapnies are doing the work have raised only so much money. As such much of the work is only in the hands of few companies.
Then comess network security, second layer take away possible tx fees which makes companies even more wary on what to do. Network effect grew so large that in order to change it you have to destroy much of the current network effect :(
I not believe in LN. WraptBTC on ETC is already 10 times bigger
Wbtc is the same as calling exchanges a scaling layer which to be fair can be. But I assure you that not the way one wants.
Renbtc is decent peg but instead will still have the scaling problem along with tbtc. Not really scaling solutions either for bitcoin it just the shift of the bitcoin from centralized exchanges to "decentralized" ones. The returns are higher so why leave it on a regular exchange :P
