I've always found it remarkable just how quickly plants can go from invisible to completely out of hand. This is not quite what I mean, but it'll do for my point. The above image is made of two photos I took, one a month ago:

Looks like no-man's land. You might think, being so desolate, that chickens who don't bother to leave the enclosure would have no greens in their diet, but one month later (today):

In my personal experience, chickens learn very quickly to get out. Learning to get back in, on the other hand, takes considerably longer. This is one of the reasons for the brood shed:

I don't know how to end this. I had hoped to show pictures of the ducklings, which hatched the day before yesterday, but they didn't hang about long enough for me to get decent pictures. The only picture I got of a duckling was extremely blurry. All but one egg hatched, so here's that:
