I realise that you're trying to avoid IP treading because you're publishing (or at least intending on) things, I feel that if you successfully avoid everything you won't be able to publish anything.

As long as your thing is sufficiently different from their thing that the two can't be confused on anything other than name you're fine.
Other people trying to kick up a fuss with some serious mental gymnastics to pretend otherwise aren't worth the time or effort to acknowledge the existence of.
