Hero Forge Miniatures: Karadenian Army

in #figurines4 years ago

Despite the influence of Arcadian culture on the gentry of the Karadenian Empire, reflected in both architecture and the military, most of the workers and peasants held on to their ancient Minkutian roots as tightly as they could. When the geopolitical situation all over Rossbera necessitated the abolition of the elite warrior class and its replacement with a conscripted, industrialised army, this cultural blend could be seen in the uniforms of the typical Karadenian soldier as he would have looked during the Battle of Shiamazdu:

Much like every other Rossberan soldier at the time, Karadenian conscripts were issued a bolt-action rifle. What set the Karadenians apart was the conical helmet, an iron version of the traditional farmer's hat.

For those who are wondering, such helmets existed historically - the ashigaru infantry (musketeers) of 16th and 17th century Japan wore such conical helmets, which were easier to mass produce than the samurai kabutou, as even the simplest version of the latter is quite complicated. The Karadenian Empire, however, used more advance manufacturing techniques, such as drop forging and metal spinning to mass-produce military hardware.

This particular soldier is a votrel, and this one shows exactly how most votrels bob their tail hair to leave nothing more than a tuft sticking out. This soldier also represents the typical conscript, possessing the bare minimum of equipment for fighting on the front line.

The same basic uniform is issued to the artillery crews, with the main difference being the short sword on the belt instead of a bayonet. Issuing gladius-like short swords to artillery crews, incidentally, was yet another historical practise. The broom, naturally, is meant to be a stand-in for a cannon swab. I may eventually modify this model before printing it along side a model of a 280mm field mortar.

This is the point where I started to run out of ideas for this army, and I wasn't finding any more items in Hero Forge that were sparking my creativity. I found a nice helmet suitable for the officers, but not a who lot more than that. This was what I came up with, and I'll probably end up overhauling the entire model at some point:

The helmet is the best part, and the coat isn't too bad either, but I found myself at a loss for the rest. He has a whip on his left hip...

...and a revolver on his right, much like almost everyone else. The story with making a model of a Karadenian general was the same basic story, only worse:

Maybe I'll get some better ideas for these guys with the next batch of item additions. If I can't come up with better ideas, I may just cut off the heads and glue them into open tank hatches. Next post will probably be more entertaining.
