Hero Forge Miniatures: Partisans

in #figurines4 years ago

For those who don't know, guerillas in the European theatres of both World Wars were known as "partisans." These fighters operated as independent militias, rather than as part of any army, and were frequently at odds with both the army and other partisan groups for the nation they supported, with Russia being the best (or worst) example of this practise. In The Nine Empires, partisans operate in support of numerous factions and in different environments.

All three of the partisan models that I currently have are based off of the semka template. The first of these is a jungle fighter, as one might expect to see in the southern parts of Sondor or Karaden, or the border between Arcadia and Breace.

Partisan 2.PNG

He's crouched slightly, sneaking through the undergrowth, which includes lots of mushrooms.

His machete is on his back, for the simple reason that there was nowhere else I could put it.

In order to make the desert partisan, all I did was swap the clothing and back item. Partisans would wear long robes and face scarves in desert environments such as northern Arcadia.

As one might expect, partisans also wore goggles to protect their eyes from the sun and sand.

The entrenching tool on the back, meanwhile, is for digging foxholes, improvised trenches, and other hiding places in the sand. Because partisans usually functioned to harry supply lines by destroying rail lines (among other things), they needed places to retreat to, and unlike the jungle, the desert doesn't provide too many.

Partisans operated in the north as well, mostly Okseetia, routinely disrupting the activities of the occupying Alexandrian army. These partisan groups all represented rival factions, including a number of different socialist groups.

The winter partisan has a pair of kamas on his back, which are stand-ins for ice axes. In a wargaming context, this would allow winter partisans to climb over obstacles with relative ease ("the walls aren't keeping them out!").

Depending on what items Hero Forge adds in the future, I may make some partisans with different poses and equipment, such as a detonator (Hero Forge already has sticks of dynamite, but that's not enough for what I'd like). Tomorrow's post may finally deviate from this marathon of Hero Forge miniatures, even though I still have plenty to share.
