I'm sure you're right that sharing something personal is valuable to gain trust and followers, but ... I'm still cautious; steemit really is 100% open, it's all public ... it can be dangerous ...
you would be surprised how many people get scammed, because they meet somebody in real life, thinking nothing about it, while the scammers already knew them from available online information, which is why they targeted the person in the first place, and of course that's how they know what to say to mislead the victims ... it happens!
