We spent our morning harvesting and shelling pinto beans from our garden and a couple of ears of “Country Gentleman” ears of corn. As an herbalist and self proclaimed “Kitchen Witch” I tend to fill my garden with herbs and veggies/fruits that also have healing benefits and I seldom let anything go to waste.
After composting the husks and having my son peel and clean the stalks, the stalks can be chewed like sugarcane, I collected the corn silk to make a tincture that’s great for your urinary tract health!

Did you know corn silk has properties that help your kidneys flush out kidney stones and also corn silk helps relieve any discomfort caused by urinary tract infections? Yup! This plant ally is an overlooked yet powerful treatment that’s always part of my natural apothecary cabinet.
And it’s easy to do!
Loosely pack your corn silk into a clean/sterile mason jar.

Pour over your silk 90 to 100 proof vodka until it’s completely submerged.

Put the lid on, store in a dark cabinet for approximately 2-4 weeks and strain into a glass jar or better yet glass bottle with dropper. Take as recommended by your herbalist or natural health provider and consult them or your physician before starting any new treatments such as this. Even if it’s natural it’s still “medicine” and can interfere with other illnesses or treatments you might be on.

I love being able to use my garden plant allies to heal myself and family as well as use them as a compliment to allopathic medicine when appropriate.

What natural remedy do you most often use?
May you all have a safe and wonderful Sunday!
