We were in South Shields to see friends and had an explore. A must had come in from the sea, but there were still lots of people in the beach. You could hardly see the sea from the promenade.
We were looking for somewhere for a light lunch as we were going to have fish and chips with our friends later. Platform 33 had a carvery, with a veggie option, but we went for the vegan sausage sandwich. There was a choice of brown or white bread, but the brown was a bit bland. The sausages were nice enough. It was described as having caramelised onions, but they tasted like something from a jar. The portion was decent with chips, salad and coleslaw. The chips were a little soft rather than crisp.
All that said it was not bad food really and not too expensive. The place was fairly busy.
I had a coffee with mine and I do have an issue with cups that have a useless handle. I could not even get one finger through it, so it was tricky to lift the heavy cup.
We did not go onto the beach itself, but then we were not going to swim. You can see how misty it was
We wandered through the fairground and played the coin-pushing machines in the arcade. That is an essential part of a trip to the British seaside.
That's interesting how they put the slaw on top of the salad. I don't think I have ever seen that before. Is South Shields a town or a territory/county or whatever?
South Shields is a town, but it is merging into others around Newcastle. That's a big urban area overall. We saw some of the town and it has some nice parts that include the beach. Some really nice houses there that we were checking out, but they have lost the major industries of shipbuilding and coal mining that helped build the place up.

There is some of that happening, but they have to find other opportunities too.

This was no dainty teacup, so you needed a bit of strength to hold it. It's bad design.

Those cups are a pain in the chuff. I hate them
It's been brighter since then. Takes a lot to drive Brits away from the beach.
And it doesn't take much to drive them to it!!
Is the fog rolling in? There was a decent chippy in SS, on the line where all the curry houses live.
Ours came from Colman's who have a funky restaurant on the front, but we went to their other shop.
It's been misty on and off, but blazing hot when the sun is out. Will be a few degrees cooler than home down south.
Colman's, thats the one. They have one on the seafront and another on that long road.
