Adelaide Hive Meet-Up January 2020

On the afternoon of Thursday 28th of January, the sky was a subtle but pleasant mix of white and a very light grey. I hadn’t noticed it until I stepped out of the GA1, the bus that is being used to used to replace the Gawler Central train while they are electrifying the railway line, and onto North Terrace, beside the Adelaide Casino.

I had decided to see if I could do my Splinterlands daily quests by the time I got from the casino to The Jade pub for the monthly Adelaide Hive meetup. I now have it on my mobile phone and can grind out matches.

Occasionally small droplets of rain would land on the screen of the phone, interrupting my enjoyment temporarily before I wiped the screen clean with my T-shirt, as I walked along Rundle Mall.

Eventually, I made it to The Jade pub and met with @mattclarke and one of his sons in the beer garden. @minismallholding sent her apologies and couldn’t attend.
Normally, @holoz0r would be there too. I hope he’s O.K.

It turns out that I did eventually make my daily quest on Splinterlands, but not until a few minutes after I got to the pub.

The Jade

There was a rather weak threat of rain, which forced us to change tables but that threat, like most threats was largely unfounded.

We got to catching up and talking about movies and television and pretty soon the focus came around to all things Hive.

@mattclarke and I are different people, with different interests, focuses and life choices. Normally, this would be a negative in most human interactions and friendships, however because we have Hive in common it allows us both to share bits and pieces of information that the other might not have known about.

Especially when it comes to all things crypto / block-chain / Hive related.

While we were talking, I got a few email notifications from Coinspot, my local exchange. Apparently there were password attempts to get into my account.
@mattclarke said that unless they addressed you by your real name, they were phishing emails, and he was right!

I somehow already knew this, but getting the emails from Coinspot unsettled me a little. I have 2 Factor Identification on my account anyway.

Since then I have seen numerous phishing attempts in my emails.

I decided to order a toasted sandwich from the nearby food stall.

What was discussed?

As a general rule, the meetings are sort of hush hush but I can talk about things in general terms.

We talked about the raffle tickets with Splinterlands after the land sale. I own 3 plots of land and will probably mine them for resources when land comes online.

We also discussed some of the cheaper, but highly undervalued Splinterlands cards, and how they work at higher ranks and with the new rule sets.

Account creation tokens and a reminder to accumulate them when your resource credits are full. Just go through the pull down menu on the HP section in your wallet.

Shhh... “There’s a bot that helps to buy NFT game cards within dcity.io”.

You can invest in Bitcoin, ETH, Litecoin, dogecoin, etc. via hive-engine.com by buying the corresponding .swap token. For example, Bitcoin would be SWAP.BTC and so on.

Living Room Of Satoshi allows you to pay your FIAT bills like electricity, gas, etc. with crypto. It’s an expensive process, but you’re paying for convenience.

Plus, you can use this service via Hive-Engine if you have the appropriate swap token (don’t quote me on that)
Incredible stuff!

I decided to buy a little Bitcoin this way and it’s going well. (Not financial advice).

The down side to this is that you might draw attention to yourself paying bills this way.

Pretty soon, it was time to go and @mattclarke offered me a lift back to the train station for my journey home.

As always, I can’t wait for next month!

Why not consider making a local Hive meet up of your own? Don’t wait for Hivefest!

Anyway, thanks for reading this.

Until next time, keep on Hiving on.

Shaidon’s Seal Of Approval

Sort:

G'day @shaidon! That's a nice looking toasty. Just wanted to reach out and let you know I can't make it to this month's Hive meetup. Last month's was great and it was good to meet people who use this platform. Keen to get to the meetings regularly but just couldn't do it this month due to a prior commitment. I'm out of town too so a bit tricky !

Have a good one

Cheers,

See ya next time!

That's OK. We had @minismallholding, @ctrpch, @mattclarke and myself there mainly talking about raising chickens and Splinterlands cards. But I always find it a good experience to see where people are coming from and what their strategies for Hive happen to be.

Sounds good to me. Can't beat fresh eggs

Badoom tish! Chuckle. It's still a good night. We often do deep dives into various aspects of Hive. @minismallholding explained how curating for communities worked and @mattclarke compared different mindsets of different kinds of investors.

Great chat, mate. I don't mind the one-on-one; less socialising, more nitty gritty.
It's amazing how an in-person chat can pick up on those unknown-unknowns. Still gotta work out if we should move it for Winter.

I really enjoyed reading this. I think that is cool two different types of people can come together around Hive. Awesome!

Not just that, we discuss all sorts of ideas and developments with the block-chain.
