Yesterday my mom teased me by sending a picture of my favourite savoury pastry, a bagel type thing we call vesirinkeli. I immediately made a starter dough so I could make a batch of my own today.
These are the most unassumingly delicious little treats to enjoy on their own, or with a bit of butter and served with tea. They also freeze well, if there is any left after a few hours, and I like to pop them into the toaster so they taste almost as good as freshly baked. The texture is wonderfully chewy and the coating is nice and salty because the bagels are boiled in a salty water before going into the over.
How can water, flour, yeast and salt be this delicious!?
Breadman @apsu have you ever made vesrinkeli?
Those look really good!
I'll have to admit something.. we don't typically NEVER EVER eat vesirinkeli. I've had vesirinkeli a few times when I've visited distant relatives and I only remember that I've been disappointed.
I'm not sure if it just wasn't a part of our "local cuisine" or if our family was weird, but we almost never had them so I didn't like them, thus I haven't baked them.
Now that I see this, I'm thinking that maybe I should.
Maybe you've had bad vesirinkeli, I would have thought these would be right up your alley!
This looks very delicious ❤😋

I bet you’d love a taste!
This looks so simple, yet my mouth is watering onto my keyboard...
I’m on bagel number 15 probably by now 😝
Hmm... That's not fast enough. I bet I could go through the whole batch faster 🤪

Wow, I like your Sunday's those look really delicious!
It’s been a pretty good day I must say :)
That looks like a pretty tasty treat. Boiled in salty water then baked. I think the Jewish version is boiled also, then baked...Makes it chewy or something. I guess very similar process. They look good though. I like me a bagel, or 12.
I would imagine this treat is a version of the Jewish one, it’s not like Finland has any of our own food, we stole all the ideas from someone else.
Nothing wrong with a bit of food stealing, a good way to only have the best selection.
