URGENT: The European Union is Weeks Away From Passing a Rule That Would Destroy The Best Things About The Internet!

in #freedom6 years ago (edited)

The ongoing madness of the so called 'Link Tax' continues here and I just received an update email from an activist group seeking to prevent what they consider to be the end of free speech on the internet.

gunter

As a result of lobbying by big corporate publishers, the European Commission is proposing to force websites to pay a tax to link to news content and use censorship machines to block uploaded content.1,2

The link tax would affect not just Europe, but every website based in or used in Europe -- which means potentially every website in the world. Websites like Reddit could be shut down virtually overnight.

Along with our partners, OpenMedia is launching a global day of action on June 12 to stop the link tax and save the free and open Internet. Will you chip in to Save the Link?

The European Commission would require websites to utilize automated content-filtering technology that costs millions of dollars and thousands of manpower hours, likely decimating small online businesses and startups.

The proposal also makes it impossible to opt out of charging for content, meaning that sites can’t share their information for free even if they want to.3

This law is an attack on the free press and the open Internet. Even the author of the law admitted it is "maybe not the best idea."4 But the European Commission is bowing to pressure from corporate publishing companies that are simply trying to protect their bottom lines and outdated business models.

Remember: If this law passes, it’s not just Europe that will be affected. Just as the recent EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) caused privacy terms to be updated for users around the world, the websites we use every day in America, Canada, Japan, and beyond will be irreparably harmed by this ludicrous law.

The link tax is a fatal threat to the free and open Internet worldwide, and we won’t stand for it. OpenMedia is driving calls to MEPs across Europe and lobbying the EU Parliament directly to vote down the link tax.

Will you chip in to Save the Link and stop the European Commission’s terrible link tax?

Thank you for standing with us,

Dave, and the whole team at OpenMedia

I have been hearing about this for some time but don't know the details of it up close and personal (there is only so much time in the day!).

What do you think/know/feel about this?

Wishing you well,

The internet is more powerful than the EU. At the end of the day, the citizens of the EU will revolt against Brussels if the EU goes too far.

I do not know what is "chip in".
I do know that the EU is evil and instead of trying to convince people to affect something they have no influence on, except from violent manners that people all around the world are too discouraged, castrated, demoralized, corrupted and divided to act against the atrocities of their governments, and not just their governments (I am not an anarchist and not libertarian) in a violent way like the situation requires.

Te easiest thing to be done is to educate people on how to bypass the laws.
Render these laws irrelevant.

'Chip in' means to donate or give support/help.
'Making government irrelevant' is the way forwards, so that we collectively function harmoniously and their 'services' are recognised to have no value.

I did not write and did not mean to make government irrelevant.
It is impossible and will lead to results that are further from your ideals than the current state.
Here are elaborations about it:
https://steemit.com/anarchy/@stimialiti/anarchy-s-fate-is-to-succumb-to-coercion
https://steemit.com/anarchy/@stimialiti/an-example-of-anarchy

I referred explicitly to the law which your thread is about.

Anarchy is a state of non rulers. Coercion and warlords are a form of ruling others - therefore anarchy ends where warlords and coercion begin.

And it brings its own end similar to how leaving a piece of meat to rot.
A return to anarchy is a huge setback, back to the bronze age, or something in its vicinity.

Did you bother to read my threads about it which I linked you to?

I read some of them, yes - however, we are using entirely different definitions for the practical application of anarchy. Bronze age, as I understand it, was not anarchy. I am not aware of any examples of large scale anarchy, since that would mean no violence and no overpowering of others and our historians claim no such examples as far as I am aware.

  • however, we are using entirely different definitions for the practical application of anarchy.

I am still not aware of it.

Bronze age, as I understand it, was not anarchy.

I guess it is because took more than anarchy even to get to there.

I am not aware of any examples of large scale anarchy, since that would mean no violence and no overpowering of others and our historians claim no such examples as far as I am aware.

Because anarchy is unsustainable and leads to more violence and worse tyrannical regimes.

Thank you for sharing.

Lovely day*****

Thats really serious issue @ura-soul if it happens as you said it will or may shut down many business opportunities and many small companies
We here in India have once faced a same issue but not on such a ground ours was settled before coming in action, we can just wish what ever the humours are Are not true and this does not happen,.

That sounds really not nice....
They must have big fear now I think, too much people wake up, they lose control and people don't vote them anymore, best example Italy some days ago, maybe a panic reaction for that...
I hope the crypto community will continue their great work to give us our freedom back..
The threat to cut the whole internet was already there...
Hope the EOS guys do a great work.
Best regards
Tom

I am glad that the 10% internet these people know is the only internet they think exists, they can't control the dark web in europe or anywhere else. If they're gonna control the normal internet then more people will start using the dark web. 90% space used by only 10% internet users. :)

It's high time that dictators like the EU get shut down, they have served a purpose at some point, but I think as usual the power got the better of them. Same with the UN and such.

Evidence shows that the EU was designed by an escaped nazi war criminal and was always intended to be a false front / facade for those who intend domination of the people:

Makes bloody sense. Thanks for the teaching man, I love learning new things. All the more reason to resist them
