Pokémon GO and Ed Sheeran are teaming up for a collaboration event!
The intro of the event reads the following;
"Trainers,
We might have some “Bad Habits,” but listening to Ed Sheeran songs isn’t one of them! They’re just so “Perfect,” they give us “Shivers.” But enough “Thinking Out Loud”... We’re excited to announce that, for the “First Time” ever, we’ll be collaborating with the Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran!"
This event started yesterday at 11 am PST and will last through Tuesday November 30 at 1 pm PST. Make sure to check this out for your local time zone as it's one of the, now rare, events that don't end at local time. For me it ends at 10 pm on November 30.
The event will feature a special Ed Sheeran performance available through the Pokémon GO App. It should be in the in-game news. I haven't seen it yet myself, only a link that seems to take us out of the app. So I'll have to check again later. This performance will feature the songs from Ed Sheeran's new album.
The song's melody from "Overpass Graffiti" will play every night in Pokémon GO until the end of the event.
When Ed Sheeran stars an adventure in any Pokémon game he always chooses the Water-type Pokémon as his starter. This is something I didn't know up until this event, but it's really cool to know! This collaboration event will have all Water-type starter Pokémon that are currently in Pokémon GO appearing more in the wild.
This means Squirtle, Totodile, Mudkip, Piplup, Oshawott and Froakie. Squirtle and Froakie will have a lower spawn rate than the others. All of these can be Shiny, except for Froakie which will have its Shiny debut once it gets a Community Day.
All of the Squirtle will be wearing Sunglasses! Squirtle with Sunglasses have been available during the first Squirtle Community Day back in 2018. Since then they have never been available in-game anymore. I'm looking forward to potentially get some better ones than I have. Back then all event Pokémon could be evolved, so I kept 1 Squirtle, 1 Wartortle and 1 Blastoise with Sunglasses. I'll show them in this photo.

There are also two Event Field Research Tasks with Squirtle wearing Sunglasses as encounter reward. They're the following two:
- Walk 1 km with your Buddy
- Complete 7 Field Research Tasks
The first one is quite easy to complete multiple at a time, the latter will be a bit more difficult since you can only keep 3 Field Research Tasks at a time + your Daily Field Research Task. So you can keep at most 2 of these to complete simultaneously.
You can also get a Sweatshirt from Ed Sheeran's new album if you enter the code "VVM87WGMMUZHTB8X" at the bottom of the in-game store.
