State of eSports in South-Africa

in #gaming6 years ago

As backward and disconnected as this country is, the gaming scene is rapidly gaining strength. This year at rAge, not only our usual DGL competition, but also the ESL Africa gaming league came to a close in Johannesburg...

The problem with servers.

One of the things that really upsets me is the lack of support in South-Africa for mainstream games. Although we do have Dota2 and CS:GO servers, it is a constant struggle to get servers for other games such as Battlefront and Player Unknown: Battlegrounds. This problem goes back many years and we are still trying very hard to break into the international scene when it comes to professional gaming.

Two of our most well known competitive teams, Energy eSports and Bravado Gaming battled it out in the ESL championship with Energy eSports taking the cup in 2017.

I would just like to congratulate them on this achievement as this will give them the chance to compete internationally. Bravado also made it to the into the Dota 2 international scene. Sadly, one of the problems we have in South-Africa is Lag due to some of the servers we have to play on. Should South-Africa ever catch up in infrastucture, the rest of the woorld may be surprised at what comes out of this backward 3rd world country...
