It finally happened. Sony has released an update for the Playstation 4, with which PS4 owners can play PS5 games. Now before you close this article and browse the catalogue of the available PS5 games there’s a catch, and it’s a pretty big one.

You can’t just download a PS5 game, or buy a disc and put it in your PS4, and expect it to work. You need to install the PS5 Remote Play app on your PS4 in combination with… a PS5.

So if you were not able to pre-order a PS5 and got your hopes up… I’m sorry for that. The PS5 Remote Play app will work as the standard Remote Play app which you use for your computer. But instead of streaming to your PC you’ll be streaming your PS5 through the remote app to your PS4. This way your PS4 has still some use and isn’t necessarily doomed to spend the remainder of its day in the attic catching dust.

While not the news gamers that couldn’t pre-order a PS5 yet were waiting for. In the grand scheme of things it’s a really cool feature. Especially in this day and era where durability is becoming more and more important.
