An Allotment Update, A Place That Keeps On Giving.

in #gardening4 years ago

Guy's My allotment is giving me so much produce I am having to give it away to neighbors instead of it going in the bin.

I didn't expect so much to grow, and the size difference compared to supermarkets is just unbelievable.

Taste alone makes store-bought fruit and veg taste bland, and I will never give this up as it is just our new way of life.

Next year I am going to have to learn how to preserve fruit and how to store vegetables as I don't want no waste.

This pumpkin below is an example of the size difference compared to supermarkets, I had no idea about them and I had to fact check detail to make sure I get it right, but these are on to be a winner in the contest I am going to be entering.

I didn't think that I would get any corn this year, I planted them late and I had my fingers crossed that I could grow them in the time scale that is the British weather.

I was released to see that I had corn growing on the storks, it was great to see, and I know that there is only one corn on each but next year I am going to be starting a little early and hope that I can get 2 or 3 on each plant.

Our beans have been producing so many, we have been giving them away as we just have no space to keep them. they taste so much better than what we have bought in the past and they are double the size.

I am going to be growing more of these next year as the harvest has been great and so easy to look after.

To help attract pollinators to the garden I introduced some flowers, this has worked a treat as there are so many bees and butterflies going to and from the plants and the vegetables that it is hard to keep track of them, all you can hear is buzzing.

I am a little disappointed in the state of my broccoli, but that is my fault, I didn't net the plant and it has been destroyed by caterpillars and slugs.

It got to the point where I didn't think I would see any flowers on them. but to my surprise, I found a nice head on one or two of the plants.

Tomatoes, Tomatoes, and more Tomatoes, I have two types of them growing and it is the first time I have tried to grow them, and I finally have red ones on my plant.

These have been grown outside and have gone against the cold the sun and the bugs and still I have some really nice sized tomatoes to eat, I am so looking forward to eating these in a week or two :D

Great times, I have decided to cut down on what I am going to grow next year, the reason for this is to try and get a big yield on each plant, instead of planting loads.

I have seen on my neighbor's plot he has had some massive onions and the carrots make me wonder why we buy from the supermarket as the size and taste of each one is just out of this world.

So advice to myself for next year is, don't overplant, one plant needs its own space and this will make it easier to care for.

Make sure the shed gets moved as it takes up growing space, and that is needed if I am wanting to have a bigger yield.

Don't by fertilizer as nettle and comfrey tea works better than the store-bought crap.

What do you guys think?

until next time my friends stay safe
