Building a Guest Cottage Next to the Food Forest - Framing Up

Construction on the guest cottage is going well. We are still receiving a ton of rain this year, so construction is taking a bit longer. The foundation was done a couple of weeks ago, then we watched the framing go up. Even though we have had cabins built in the past, this is the first time we live on the same site, so we are able to watch and record the whole building process.

I was worried for the construction guys when the framing first started going up on the roof. Three guys supporting a large beam and all had to balance and nail in at the same time. I am sure it is nothing to them since they do this every day. It was so interesting to watch them frame the whole thing up one 2x4, or 2 x whatever at a time. Most of the framing was done by just three guys. Half way up the roof framing, three more guys showed up to speed up the process.

It's amazing to me to think this all started with a simple drawing on construction graph paper a few months ago. This guest cottage will be about 630 square feet. This is such a treat for me to see what I have put down on a piece of paper turning into a real, three dimensional structure.

We have selected a spot on our property that is next to the food forest, but still offers privacy for our visiting guests. Our plan is to have a stocked fishing pond located right in front of the guest cottage. It will create wonderful frog noises in the Summer months. However, due to all the rain we have received this year, the construction of the pond is delayed and will have to wait till we have had some dry days.

Since our food forest is a big part of the guest cottage. Let me share a few photos of this guest cottage from our food forest.

We are excited about this project. I will be documenting the entire building process here on Steemit. Stay tuned. I think the roof is probably next.
