A baby magpie that perches on a cane chair .......

in #gems3 years ago

....... for extended lengths of time. It came once with its mother a few days ago and from then on comes visiting morning and afternoon on its own.

What a clever baby bird to learn that there are bird loving humans are happy to feed the feathered friends. Even though at this stage it does not eat from our hands it is happy to eat what is placed on the floor. It is one messy eater.

It is adorably cute with a combination of feathers on its back and soft baby down on its chest.

The most interesting and very intriguing part to this story is the bird's willingness to stay long after eating its meat. It flies up to one of the cane chairs and perches for a considerable length of time. There is no doubt that this rather large baby magpie is feeling most comfortable on our deck.

So relaxed that it goes to sleep with one leg up!

This afternoon as the resident baby magpie slept away a little butcher bird flew in for some meat. The baby woke of course and much to my surprise stayed on the chair sussing out the butcher bird, they were really eyeing each other off. Both were happy to share the same space.

Much to my entertainment the relaxed magpie settled into a sitting position ready for another nap.

We did note on one morning that the mother magpie was really not too far away from her baby while it was on our deck. When she called the baby answered and flew off.

We worked out that this baby magpie is more than 2 months old and the same height as its mother. The bird world is such an interesting area.

So ends my #featheredfriends post and many thanks to @melinda010100 for the organising. It is very appreciated.

Cheers and Blessings

What a wonderful experience with that little Magpie! I wonder if the mother will eventually become more trusting as she watches you being kind to her little one.
I will be looking forward to more of your bird tales! 😍

Hi @melinda010100, animals are just so endearing. I wonder how long the baby bird keeps coming for extended visits.

These are great captures of the baby magpie Angie. It really feels at home on the back if the chair.

Do you have any experiences with baby birds who make themselves at home? I am thinking it is unusual.

I find it unusual too Angie the baby bird stayed so long there. The only time I saw one on the deck table was when it was nearly knocked out after flying into the window.

The young blue jays make themselves at home sometimes but never stay too long on the deck railing.

We had a baby butcher bird who had a little sleep on one of the cushions on the cane chair with its mother looking over it. This was never repeated but I do wonder about a very friendly grown up butcher bird, whether it is the same one.

Birds remember and it probably is the same bird.

How precious and you are so right. The other baby bird was always so skittish and still even now sits on the clothesline for meat to be thrown its way.😊

This is one unbelievable story if you told someone about this they just would not believe you but you have the photos to prove it , this is so awesome animals can certainly sense good people 😊

It is unbelievable @kohsamui99 and the reason I tiptoed around this little magpie to get the photos. it will be interesting if it does this again.

Oh...he will be back he has found a trusted place to have a cool nap and get feed...lol 😆

Hahaha, I am sure you are not wrong. 😝

Keep me updated i enjoyed that post 👍

Sadly, the little magpie has not visited the last couple of days😐 Probably has another kind bird loving neighbour nearby.

You never know he could return maybe he has a few other places to visit doing his rounds keeping everyone happy 😊
