Been reading some comments on a YouTube live performance by Alanis Morisette. Someone said she's overrated though I think, after "Jagged Little Pill", she's rarely at the headlines of music news. She cannot be considered a one-hit album wonder because "Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie" is a hit, but underperformed from her international debut.
From "Jagged Little Pill" up to her latest albums, she wrote a lot of great tracks, and bone of them may not have reached the number 1. Yes, Alanis Morissette's "Jagged" may have been one of the biggest selling albums of all time, but none of its singles reached number 1 of the Billboard Hit 100, or even the UK Singles chart.
Meanwhile, "time" for 1990s throwback hits from Alanis Morissette.
The use of the word "ironic" in the song may have been questioned by critics. Yet, this track is considered Alanis' signature hit when it reached number 4 in Billboard Hot 100, the highest position she had peaked up to this "time".
Okay, this might sound boring for some as it doesn't have a chorus, but the song was written intelligently. The lyrics is made of letters for her exes and friends. It wasn't a big hit but I remember it gained a lot of airplays on MTV Asia.
I consider this song as one of her best recordings. Many are looking forward for her new album but released this song instead being a part of City of Angels original soundtrack. A live version is also part of her own "MTV Unplugged" album. The atmosphere of the song is dark and haunting, and her vocals is perfect on the song.
