Kayak Prospecting in the Volcano (Video)

in #gold4 years ago (edited)

Here is my Latest Offgrid video adventure....

Prospecting from the kayak on Lake Superior. We found some massive quartz veins running through gigantic volcanic rock outcrops along the North Eastern Shore of Gitchee Gumee so we went out with our pans, picks and gold metal detectors. Typically quartz veins are where you find the gold.

The Hemlo mines up in Marathon Ontario are well known for their gold .... https://www.barrick.com/English/operations/hemlo/default.aspx

Hemlo has produced more than 21 million ounces of gold, and has been operating continuously for more than 30 years. It consists of the Williams mine—an underground and open pit operation—located about 350 kilometers east of Thunder Bay, Ontario.

Judging by all the Volcanic rock along the shores of Lake Superior, there must have been an Ancient Volcano here. This is Part 1 of our adventure... Stay tuned for more.

A Secret Treasure Map :

We have lots of volcanic rock and quartzite samples we need to sift through.
So far no gold.... but stay tuned for Part 2 just in case we strike the Lost Treasure of Kitche-Gami

Gold in Volcanic Rock and Quartzite ...

How it got there: Typically gold is associated with hydrothermal quartz veins in older volcanic rocks in the region. The universal attraction of gold has lured prospectors to Lake Superior, and some have been lucky and successful. Over the past few centuries, gold has been discovered in Ontario, for example, the Red Lake area, near Geraldton and more recently at Hemlo, near Wawa. Gold also has been mined near Ishpeming, Michigan.

Treasure hunting Superior from a kayak. You are living my fantasy! I can't wait to hear more!

Not sure we are in the right spot here. We have lots of samples to work through though. Going to do some more research .... certainly the real treasure is spending time anywhere on that Giant Lake.

With that attitude you will never lose! ❤️

Nothing like giant quartz crystal with gold

I went panning once in Georgia. Didn't find any color. Realized after I got home that I had been 5 miles too far out.

Yeah.... we have to study more maps and learn the geology of the area.

I didn't find this the SGS feeds, so I am glad that you provided me the link!
Awesome article! So very interesting. I'd love to do some prospecting in the future too. Black sand... must be heavy too!
Thanks for sharing your experience, my friend @offgridlife. LOoking forward to part 2!
Have a great day, and take care 🥰🌺🤙.

Yeah .... I meant to post in the SGS Community but posted in the wrong place. We have lots of rocks and black sand to pan through ....
