THE STEEMIT GREETERS GUILD NEWBIE SPOTLIGHT

Volume Seven

Welcoming and encouraging newcomers is not only important for the success of the steemit platform, it’s just the right thing to do. And that’s exactly why @terminallyill started the Steemit Greeters Guild. When newbies join our discord server they are welcomed by trained greeters and encouraged to join “Newbie Bootcamp” where @wolfhart gives them practical training. Every member also has access to our library with educational posts about the steemit platform. Everything we do @greetersguild is designed to help our members get off to a good start.

One way that we achieve our goals is by highlighting promising newcomers through this publication. We’d greatly appreciate it if you would help us welcome all of the newbies below by upvoting, resteeming and/or commenting on their posts.

@shao693

Our first newbie, Sharmaine Lizsil has many nicknames, such as Sharm and Maine. I believe she is from the Philippines due to her references to a certain mountain peak and siopao, a popular Philippine bread.

Although she openly admits that she is not the “life of the party” kind of person, she enjoys making new friends. She believes that people put on different faces in different situations, so we should not judge a person based on first impressions. She charms us with her sense of humor by describing it this way, “You can’t describe a person with just one (1) word. (That’s why, it’s going to be a long post. Just kidding)”

In her fourth year of college Sharmaine is pursuing her dream of being an Architect and has already worked on a few projects. She also has a talent for drawing and body art and shares a couple of pictures of her work. Let’s give her a nice warm steemit welcome and encourage her to keep on sharing.

Meet our next newbie, Ominawa Michael Ayomide from Nigeria. Like many of us he was introduced to steemit by a friend. His dream had always been to become a pilot but circumstances led him elsewhere, and he discovered a new interest.

This is how he put it, “There is always a force that drives people into discovering their full potentials, a friend of mine used to tell me that if a man devotes 2 hours out of his 24 hours to something he really likes, he’s going to make something out of it at the end of a year” For Ominawa that something was electronics and he continues to pursue that interest as a hobby while studying project management technology at a local university.

Ominawa loves “to write about the origin of people, their lifestyle and origin of places”. He also plays the ‘talking drum’ and promises to tell us more about its origins. Please join me in welcoming this newcomer to our community and encourage him to continue his journey.

@david-laguardia

Our next newcomer, David LaGuardia, just joined steemit a few days ago. Currently he teaches Social Justice to highschoolers, but has been teaching/coaching/moderating for the past 17 years, including the gay-straight alliance, diversity club and fair trade club among others. His experiences and interests led him to self publish a book titled "I am not God: Searching for a Path toward Personal and Global Well-Being”.

In his book he explores questions about personal and communal problems and shares insights from traditional wisdom as well as his own thoughts. He describes it like this, “Put in a simpler way, how do individuals find personal well-being, and how do we help the world to become a better place?

He plans on sharing his book with us with the hope of prompting a dialogue on the personal and communal struggles of our time. He doesn’t claim to have “simple or final answers” but believes these issues must be discussed. And I personally couldn’t agree more. So please let this newbie know how much the steemit community values free thinkers and open discussion by extending him a warm welcome.

Many users join Steemit and quickly find themselves becoming discouraged, that is why we are here though. The users featured that have not recently posted can still receive our support which is more than likely what they need. Save your voting power for those post past the 7 day payout but please help us to encourage those users with thoughtful comments. We hope for this to boost their motivation and continue with their Steemit success.

Thank you for your support!

Great initiative you guys! The more projects like this the more easy the first steps for the newbies will be <3 And I believe that after some time, the once-newbies will help new members of the community

That is a great way to think, we do hope for the same :)

Nice job @greetersguild and @firststeps; so great what you all are doing! I'm proud to be a participant in the 'movement' to support all newbies here!

I've passed this post on to @c-squared so hopefully they will deem it curation to support :)

Awesome, thank you :) We really appreciate your continued support.
