One of the things you can play with is how much money and value can be held or lost on a USB drive or an external drive. when you have access to a wallet and the password and you can drain the funds of someone's account. This can lead to some intense scenes where people are trying to get their hands on these wallets or password.
In terms of why it can depend on the faction. Maybe the centralized faction wants the funds so they can work like a secret agent and buy the resources from that faction. Or bride people in that faction. I was thinking they might want the funds just to limit the funds the decentralized people have but this might lead them to adding more zeroes after the decimal to the currency and I think you want to make the story as simple as you can in terms of crypto knowledge so people who know nothing about the blockchain can still watch it. Metaphors are good, compare the different cryptocurrencies to different country currencies. Only certain places take certain currencies.
And then you can have the action or stealth scenes when people are trying to get access to the wallet. Hackers will play a role as they try to break the passwords. Or a drive could be replaced with an empty one. I wrote a short story about a car chase where someone had a USB stick with a lot of money on it if there is anything from it you want to use, feel free to :)

Eish this is scary - I am starting to think that my ignorance is bliss - I know very little about the inner working of steemit - I just post, read and enjoy. Like the story - Resteeming
That's really interesting. Upvoted.
This was a great opportunity!
Interesting premise, but ventures a little too close to "Shadowrun" for me lol
Would be a great opportunity for someone to make fingerprint USB sticks.
That is an interesting idea.
Hey @whatageek, great to see your enthusiastic #hardforkseries contributions! Thanks so much for jumping right in!
:) I will do some more, good luck with the process.
Thanks @whatageek!!
No problem, I will probably make a few more.
