We live like YOLO and regret it

in #health6 years ago (edited)

A typical chat with friends when we're in our 40s (or even starting mid-30s) would always include stories about our health. This is when everyone is aware of how sensitive our bodies become when we disregard our eating habits or live a sedentary or less healthy lifestyle.

I haven't quite completed my losing weight blog series, and I think I'll save the last part for another time. This post is dedicated to those I know who are currently struggling with their health, whether they realise it or not.

Really, I think many of them who I know don't realise how serious their health issues are. Most of them brush it off as an age issue, but it's not. It's a lifestyle issue -- specifically, how we handle stress and the types of food we consume. It's easy for me to pinpoint online social media as the main culprit. All those Goalcast inspirational videos and photo filters are so easy to share and use. We're bombarded with highly idealised life goals expectations and filtered food photos that, when taken and compared to our lives, makes ours so insignificant and make you realise that you have achieved little to nothing in life. This adds to more stress, depression, and more unnecessary food intake because the food looks more delicious than it is healthy and the gluttony kicks in.

YOLO (you only live once), right?

That one chocolate cake wouldn't hurt. The next two or so weeks of trying to burn off those extra calories are definitely worth it. IF we ever exercise, that is. And then, we live like we YOLO almost every time. Let's just have another. And another. And another. And every other day we'll have one.

While we're at it, our body is sending us signal upon subtle signal -- our weight goes up, we walk slower, our breathing become shorter, we feel our bodies ache here and there, our stomachs are more bloated and gassy. You know, "typical" body and age issues.

Then one day, a part of your body hurts just a little bit more. It's usually starts with the head, or abdomen, joint, or the back. We bear with it. Pop a pill or two to ease the pain. While we're at it, our eating habits remain unchanged. We possibly even do that YOLO lifestyle more.

I want to go on with the story, but it's just too sad.

As much as we want to live in the moment, it's more important that we live it fully. It's difficult to do that, though, when we're not healthy. If we at least change our diet habits, then that is one step in the right direction.

My friends, please take care. Eat well, drink well, so you can live well. At least I won't be hearing stories of you feeling ill while seeing you eat the very food that may make you ill.
