This virus has really accelerated the work from home shift, and I think this will be a permanent change for many organizations.

Massive reductions in overhead, with the side effect that commercial real estate will take big hits. The savings for workers is huge, I've calculated that commuting 20k round trip for 6 years in Toronto, Canada cost me apx $20,000 CAD, not to mention the toll on our environment. Work from home is the future for many industries, not all, but its a welcome shift for sure.

PSA is looking at making 80,000 employees worldwide permanent.

You are right about the effects on commercial real estate and the individual wallet. Commuting takes up a great deal of time and money.

Think of how many hours you lost over those 6 years during those commutes.

Well actually I calculated that too,...apx 2,520 hours,..or a whopping 105 Days. That's almost all lost productivity on my part... I explained this to my 62 year old boss once, when he was saying "its just nice to see people faces, and sometimes in person meetings are nice too".. My response was..20k down the drain, 105 days of productivity lost,.. and the opportunity cost. He was dumbfounded when he heard the figures. Many from the older generation didn't have to work two jobs, they didnt need to stay productive after their 9-5 or many just didn't desire too. My generation is different, at least many are..

Funny enough, many are yet to discover that this is just the beginning. The truth is it may take years for the pre-covid routine office work life to return if at all there will be the need for it. With this new shifts, I pity the fiat banking industry what they'll have to offer except for more extortion.
