Hola amigos, la universidad está próxima a empezar el nuevo curso escolar y es por esto que el Departamento de Lenguas Extranjeras de la Universidad de Pinar del Río (UPR) realizó hoy un trabajo de limpieza y embellecimiento de los locales que utiliza la carrera, me refiero a las aulas y al departamento de profesores. En este post les contaré un poco sobre lo que hicimos.
Hello friends, the university is about to start the new school year and that is why the Department of Foreign Languages of the University of Pinar del Rio (UPR) carried out today a cleaning and beautification work of the premises used by the career, I mean the classrooms and the teachers' department. In this post I will tell you a little about what we did.
Primero que todo, esta fue una actividad convocada por nuestra jefa a través de nuestro grupo de WhatsApp, y la mayoría de los profesores enseguida estuvimos de acuerdo en participar, pues queremos que los estudiantes se lleven una buena primera impresión de la universidad. Nuestro departamento se caracteriza por tener en su claustro muchos profesores jóvenes, pero aún así tanto jóvenes como los más experimentados estuvimos hoy apoyando el trabajo y embellecimiendo nuestros locales.
First of all, this was an activity called by our boss through our WhatsApp group, and most of the professors immediately agreed to participate, because we want the students to have a good first impression of the university. Our department is characterized by having many young professors in its faculty, but even so both young and more experienced ones were today supporting the work and beautifying our premises.
Las labores fueron repartidas, algunos limpiaron las aulas, otros las organizaban y otros se encargaban del embellecimiento y arreglo de los murales. Somos un departamento muy unido por lo que todos hicimos nuestro mayor esfuerzo y todo fluyó muy bien.
The work was divided up, some cleaned the classrooms, others organized them and others were in charge of beautifying and arranging the murals. We are a very close-knit department so we all did our best and everything flowed very well.
Por mi parte, me tocó la parte de la estética y el embellecimiento junto a otros compañeros. Adornamos unas ventanas con papel y unos lazos, y también colgamos dos cintas de papel a lo largo del pasillo central y las adornamos con cintas de color rosado y blanco y les colgamos unos carteles con frases en inglés, un detalle que los estudiantes seguro apreciarán. Además, en la puerta de cada aula pusimos un lazo con un pequeño papel que pone Lenguas Extranjeras, esto con el fin de identificar nuestras aulas.
As for me, I was in charge of aesthetics and beautification along with other colleagues. We decorated some windows with paper and bows, and we also hung two paper ribbons along the central hallway and decorated them with pink and white ribbons and hung some posters with English phrases on them, a detail that the students will surely appreciate. In addition, on the door of each classroom we placed a ribbon with a small piece of paper with the words Foreign Languages on it, in order to identify our classrooms.

En adición, se adornaron un poco los murales con lo que teníamos a mano, pero aún falta mucho que hacer con ellos. El más adelantado es el que está en el departamento de profesores, pues solo hay que actualizar el almanaque y agregar los próximos eventos a realizar.
In addition, the murals were decorated a bit with what we had on hand, but there is still a lot to do with them. The most advanced is the one in the teachers' department, since we only have to update the almanac and add the next events to be held.

Después de estas labores realizamos nuestra reunión de departamento donde se habló sobre los aspectos más importantes del curso escolar que inicia y sobre las actividades que estaremos efectuando en este mes de febrero.
En fin, fue una jornada muy productiva, quedamos contentos con el trabajo, pues todo quedó limpio y organizado,tanto las aulas como los pasillos y ya estamos listos para afrontar este nuevo curso. Gracias por leer, un bello día a todos.
After these tasks we held our department meeting where we discussed the most important aspects of the school year that is beginning and the activities that we will be carrying out in February.
All in all, it was a very productive day, we were happy with the work, since the halls are clean and the classrooms organized and we are ready to face this new school year. Thank you for reading, a beautiful day to all.

Although there should be people who should clean the classrooms, still, it is nice to see that teachers can gather and do it by themselves. It is a shared effort and also an opportunity to have a great time together. Building even more bonds :)

It is very common in Cuba that we teachers do this kind of things, and like you said it's a great opportunity to create bonds. While we were doing this there was some music on and we had fun. My department feels like a second family indeed, it's a very nice working environment. Thanks for your comment 😊
