Erlen-Rindeneule ■ The alder moth
Acronicta alni (Linnaeus, 1767)
Die Erlen-Rindeneule ist ein Nachtfalter aus der Familie der Eulenfalter (Noctuidae). Der Falter fliegt von Mai bis Juni in nicht zu trockenen Mischwäldern. Feuchtere Habitate in der Nähe von Flüssen werden bevorzugt. Der Falter ist ausschließlich nachtaktiv und fliegt künstliche Lichtquellen an.
The alder moth is a moth from the family of Noctuidae. The moth flies from May to June in not too dry mixed forests. Moist habitats near rivers are preferred. The moth is exclusively nocturnal and flies to artificial light sources.
Zum ersten mal konnte ich die Raupe in der Natur finden. Sie saß auf der Blattoberseite einer Salweide. Ihr schwarzer Körper mit den leuchtend gelben Querlinien sind sehr markant. Einzigartig sind auf jeden Fall ihre schwarzen Haare welche an den Enden Keulenförmig verlaufen. Die erwachsene Raupe verpuppt sich an Totholz. Hierzu nagt sie einen Gang in das Holz, um sich darin zu verpuppen. Faszinierend welche Strategie die unterschiedlichen Arten im Verlauf der Evolution entwickelt haben um zu überleben. Die Erlen-Rindeneule gilt in vielen Bundesländern stark gefährdet.
For the first time I could find the caterpillar in nature. It was sitting on the top of the leaves of a willow tree. Its black body with the bright yellow cross lines are very distinctive. Unique are its black hairs which are club-shaped at the ends. The adult caterpillar pupates on dead wood. For this it gnaws a passage into the wood to pupate. Fascinating which strategy the different species have developed during evolution to survive. The alder moth is considered to be highly endangered in many German states.

Both the moth and caterpillar is beautiful, moth is camouflage with its surroundings and caterpillar in colour indeed on leave, just its amazing to look.

How different the disguise is during different cycles of life, being able to document is becoming a necessity to find out how many species remain in different regions. Excellent photography and interesting content once again.
We are currently carrying out measurements to determine the biomass in nature reserves. This is measured according to weight in a defined period of time. In addition, the contained species are counted. If you do this regularly over many years, you have a fairly accurate overview of the existing biodiversity in the area.
Good to know how many people really do take note of what is happening in the fields around them.
Dann hast Du ja mal wieder ein sehr seltenes wunderbares Exemplar beschrieben. J afinde ich auch sehr beeindruckend welche Strategien die Tiere entwickeln um zu überleben.

Die Raupe habe ich natürlich in meine Obhut genommen. Seit gestern Abend ist sie verpuppt. Wenn man es nicht weis an welcher Stelle sie die Röhre angelegt hat, sieht man nur ein kleines Stück Holz. So etwas habe ich auch das erste mal beobachtet. Die Raupe hat über zwei Tage unermüdlich eine Röhre in ein Stück trockenes Holz genagt. Woher die Raupe diese Kraft nimmt ist mir ein Rätzel.
Der Schmetterling sieht stark aus 👌
Das Besondere an dieser Art ist für mich die Raupe. Sie ist optisch einfach hinreisend. Aber auch der Falter hat bei genauerer Betrachtung seinen Reiz.

Faszinierend der Farbkontrast zwischen der Motte und dem Ort, an dem sie landet. So wie die Raupe schön ist, ist es schade, dass sie von den Bauern nicht so geliebt wird, und zwar mit all ihren Gründen. Herzlichen Glückwunsch, toller Fund.
Dem Baum fügt sie nur geringen Schaden zu. Sie frisst nur wenige Blätter. Auch zur Verpuppung nutzt sie abgestorbenes Holz am Boden. Somit hält sich der Schaden in Grenzen 😀
