Der Admiral ist ein Tagfalter aus der Familie der Edelfalter (Nymphalidae). Häufig kann man ihn im Garten am Schmetterlingsflieder (Buddleja davidii) beobachten. Im Herbst saugt er gerne an gärenden Früchten wie Zwetschgen oder Äpfeln.
The red Admiral is a butterfly of the family Nymphalidae. It can often be observed in the garden on the butterfly bush (Buddleja davidii). In autumn it likes to suck on fermenting fruits such as plums or apples.

Der Falter fliegt in Mitteleuropa in 3 Generationen. Die letzte Generation überwintert. Durch die warmen Winter kann der Falter in den südlichen Gebieten von Deutschland überwintern. Meistens verbringt er den Winter an einer geschützten Stelle.
The butterfly flies in Central Europe in 3 generations. The last generation hibernates. Due to the warm winters the butterfly can spend the winter in the southern areas of Germany. Mostly it spends the winter in a protected place.

Am Abend sonnen sich die Falter gerne an einem Baumstamm und genießen die letzten wärmenden Sonnenstrahlen. Bei meiner nachfolgenden Aufnahme kann man das Weibchen an den kleinen weißen Punkten in der orangenen Binde der Vorderflügel erkennen.
In the evening the butterflies like to sunbathe on a tree trunk and enjoy the last warming rays of the sun. In my following photo you can recognise the female by the small white dots in the orange band of the forewings.

Ein guter Freund hat mir die nachfolgende Puppe mitgebracht. Diese hatte ich bisher noch nicht fotografiert. Voller Erwartung habe mich auf den Falter gefreut. Leider war die Puppe parasitiert und so ist aus ihr kein Schmetterling, sondern eine Schlupfwespe geschlüpft.
A good friend brought me the following doll. I had not photographed it yet. Full of expectation I was looking forward to the butterfly. Unfortunately the pupa was parasitised and so it was not a butterfly but an ichneumon wasp.

Als Reproduktionsstratege haben Schmetterlinge viele Nachkommen. Bis zum fertigen Schmetterling ernähren sie viele weitere Tiere. Nicht nur Insekten ernähren sich von den Eiern, Raupen und Puppen der Schmetterlinge. Im Frühling könnten die Jungtiere der Vögel nicht ohne das Protein der Raupen überleben. Letztendlich überleben nur eins bis zwei Prozent die Verwandlung bis zum Schmetterling. So funktioniert die Natur. Alles hat seinen Sinn.
As reproduction strategists, butterflies have many offspring. Until the finished butterfly, they feed many other animals. Not only insects feed on the eggs, caterpillars and pupae of butterflies. In spring, the young birds could not survive without the protein of the caterpillars. In the end, only one to two percent survive the transformation to butterflies. This is how nature works. Everything has its purpose.

Das mit den weissen Punkten bei den Weibchen wusste ich noch nicht. Tolle Fotos wie immer.
Hier noch ein Rätsel, welches vermutlich nur Du lösen kannst.

The butterfly is very colourful wings, its life cycle is also a variation from the nature, nature gives its best with the butterfly beauty.
I do not know any other animal species whose colours are so different and beautiful. Probably one reason why butterflies fascinate me so much.

What wonderful photography on the butterfly along with migratory information. Pity the pupa was not quite what you expected, everyone is interesting and plays a part in nature.
Of course I was disappointed at first. But I can still be satisfied that I was allowed to photograph the doll. So you still have goals for the future.
I have seen many more pupa around, just don't have the heart to put a net around to see what emerges, perhaps next time...

Wow! What a story to go along with the photography, these little guys are survivors.
We’ve tried to identify some of the butterflies here in Suriname, but the lists of names and photos are so long, we don’t know where to begin.
We have some awesome phone apps for plant identification, wonder if there are any for insects/butterflies?
