Operophtera brumata (Linnaeus, 1758)

Im Herbst und Winter suche ich im Buchenwald nach Frostspanner. Es sind die wenigen Arten, die man auch im frühen Winter nach frostigen Nächten entdecken kann. Am Tag ruht der Falter am Stamm von Buchen. Sobald es dunkel wird, klettern die flügellosen Weibchen den Stamm hinauf, um sich von den Männchen befruchten zu lassen. Das Weibchen legt seine Eier an der Borke ab. Das Ei überwintert und die Raupe schlüpft im Frühling. Sie lebt an den Blattknospen gesellig in einem Gespinst. Die Verpuppung erfolgt an der Basis der Buche im Erdreich. Der Falter fliegt in einer Generation und gilt in seinem Bestand als nicht gefährdet.
In autumn and winter I look for Winter moth in the beech forest. They are the few species that can be discovered even in early winter after frosty nights. During the day the moth rests on the trunk of beech trees. As soon as it gets dark, the wingless females climb up the trunk to be fertilized by the males. The female lays her eggs on the bark. The egg hibernates and the caterpillar hatches in spring. It lives sociably in a web at the leaf buds. The pupation occurs at the base of the beech in the ground. The moth flies in one generation and is not considered endangered in its population.

Leider konnte ich diesen Falter nicht dazu bewegen, die Flügel zu öffnen. Um euch einen besseren Eindruck meiner Fotografie zu vermitteln, habe ich noch ein Making of beigefügt.

Aber auch das Habitat ist es, Wert gezeigt zu werden. Die Buchenwälder im Spessart sind einfach schön und die herbstlichen Farben laden ein, um dort oben im Wald zu verweilen.
But also the habitat is to be shown value. The beech forests in the Spessart are simply beautiful and the autumnal colors invite you to linger in the forest up there.

Warum noch in den Wald gehen, wenn Deine Fotos einem eine deratige räumliche Tiefe vermitteln, als sei man mittendrin, statt nur dabei! ;-)
Meine Bilder sollen Wald nicht ersetzten. Viel mehr sollen sie anregen selber raus zu gehen und die Augen offen zu halten.

Sehr schön, der Herbstwald gefällt mir auch besonders gut.
Jetzt ist der Farbenzauber längst vorbei. Harte Zeiten für einen Makrofotografen wie mich. Aber der nächste Frühling kommt bestimmt 😀
Noch viele Blätter in dem Buchenwald. Ich finde die Farbven sehr spannend. Sehr interessant das einige Falter so nachtaktiv sind.

Viel interessanter finde ich, dass sie erst nach dem ersten Frost aktiv werden. Aber bald ist auch mit den Frostspannern Schluss. Dann geht es erst im Februar wieder los. Ich kann es nicht erwarten. Von mir aus kann der Frühling morgen beginnen 😉
