Sports OCD Curation Weekly Update

Maybe a harsher post than normal but this is all about being honest and trying to help. One thing I have learned over my time on Hive is that sometimes you just have to say what is wrong as being nice normally never works.

We are now 7 weeks into this curation project with @ocd and things are going really well. In some aspects anyway which you will see by the numbers if we compare them to nearly 2 months ago. I think what @ocd has done is highlighted areas we can improve on plus other areas that need to change making the community stronger. What @ocd has done is given everyone a chance to be supported and improve on their offerings and their actions.

We started out with 722 members in sports and that has jumped up to 856 which is around an 18% increase and up another 14 from last week. One thousand was the target I was hoping we would achieve by the year end and at this rate it will be close. My calculations say we need 20 new members per week to achieve this goal so it is doable if we all get involved.

Over the last week I must be honest I have been struggling to find posts to curate as many are on football matches being a report with no personal thoughts and input. I can't think of anything more off putting than that type of post as you as an author are offering nothing new and are adding no value. My view is that it is a longer form of spam and is wasting everyone's time. Who are you trying to kid thinking you are a reporter for a newspaper or something? I have always said add value by adding your own perspective and thoughts and literally the opposite of what we are seeing right now.

Currently we have possibly 25 authors who get curated on a regular basis and would like to see that increase as everyone should be trying to be curated. Time and effort is required with your own words and thoughts which is not asking much as that is what everyone should be doing anyway. This is not a rant, but a general observation so everyone knows what is going on and possibly why they aren't being curated.

Activity is down which I think is the same amongst all the other communities except Leo. I will get onto that in a bit as they are doing something right. Currently many are posting and are not interacting with other users reading and commenting on their posts. The stats say we have 130 of us who are active and we seriously need to at least make 8 comments per week to break the 1000 mark raising the interactions.

What is a bit scary is some posts are lop sided as they are competitions with users joining in so if we remove those then the interactions are much lower and this is really pathetic. The trick is how do we fix this and increase the engagement?

I think the answer is right in front of us and we need to follow @leofinance's lead by changing the way curation happens on the sports tribe. I am asking all the large stake holders to please stop their auto voting and to use their vote to support comments and new users. The vote is currently top heavy going to a set few which is not encouraging new users to join.

Making curation rewards is great but where does that leave the tribe as a community? What is more important for the long term is the question you should be asking yourselves. Is that post you just voted on worth 100 000 sports tokens which is now 20 Hive? I know the answer already and so do you and that is what needs to change.

There are some posts going through @ocd curation that have one or two votes and making the average post on sports that is receiving plenty of support looking like a shit post. That tells me very few are looking to curate and this is just too easy to earn. Go look at the trending page and compare that to your offerings over the last week and spot the difference.

Change needs to happen and many of us as the larger stake holders need to change for the better of the community. I believe if we get this right then the members will come flooding in changing sports for the good. We have to all look further than next month and think about what we want from sports in years to come.

Thank you for all that you've done to improve sporting content on Hive both in #sportstalk and through OCD! The work you do curating for OCD has certainly been instrumental in helping users see value in sharing sporting content on the chain which I think is needed for continued growth of the wider market.

I won't speak to specifics since I don't know which match posts you're referring to but I actually like match reviews. I think there's a lot of value in becoming a hub for conversation around matches and game reviews. That being said it needs to be original work and not just a copy of some AP article.

As for curation changes I am in complete agreement that LEO has proven that model and it's something I would support. I think it's something we should take comment on from the community at whole and implement as soon as possible. I think it's clear it helps build engagement when you are rewarded for doing so.

How do you feel about burn projects like @sportsburn for the token economics? I've debated updating the daily curation report to include burn comments that users could upvote. That way if there's nothing you see worthwhile for the day you could upvote those comments knowing that the author portion will be burnt while still retaining your stake of inflation in the curation.

Thanks Patrick. Burn posts have their place and will always be supported as they are important to try and help gain value for the token over time.
I think Sports is at a point that we need to change the curation in order to boost engagement and support new users. Quality is improving and sports is going from strength to strength right now and long may it continue.

I completely agree on that.

Thanks Sports Boss for finding time to drop this comment. Like I'll always say, we want to see your presence more often. Cheers!

Thanks @uyobong.sports hope all is well for you!

What's your full opinion on @sportsburn maybe we should hear your side first.

To me, it's doing what could have been done in awhile. The reward on the post is sent to null, so is the hive reward also used to buy sports and it's sent to null too as you can see on the page.

I think the best mode of burning is the one initiated by Neoxian. Automatically, 10% of each person's sports reward is sent to null. You can imagine how much will be sent to NULL in a day, we might be talking of millions here, in a day. If this comes to place, there won't be need for @sportsburn again.

But most importantly is the engagement, and ways to give value to the token in the market also is lack of road map from you.

I will really be happy if you can bring up update, real working updates.

..

I am fully supportive of burn comment functions. I think it's an option for stakeholders who feel there was no other content worthy of a vote for that day to retain their share of inflation while still having a content option to vote and retain their voting rights. It's another reason I would personally be in favor of moving to linear rewards at the moment.

I really like that @sportsburn is providing another option to burn daily. The point of my question was to see what was thought about adding additional comments to @sportstalksocial's daily curation report that were designed solely for this purpose. While that might appear spammy to some I feel that would add an important feature to SPORTS of saying no content for that day is worthy of a vote and that you want your share of author inflation for the day to be burnt.

I don't see the point in automatically burning other than to run up your stats. Why not just lower inflation by 10% if it's automatically being removed? I like the concept of giving each stakeholder the option of what they want to do thus why I was inquiring if adding such comments would appear by the community as spammy.

I think in the current model of Hive Engine not offering a voting cooldown period that linear would increase engagement. I think this is something worthy of having a discussion of on the main account to seek objections or confirmations of.

As for updates did you see that we've added support for suggested tags? This will help new users that get confused by the tag structure to identify their post for common tags of curation. Outside of that there are a few projects that I'm supporting or working on personally but nothing substantial enough to update to. Is there anything in particular you want to see added?

Thanks for the great update. I will have to dig into my auto votes on that account and see if there is anything I can change. I know I had a lot of legacy ones setup and I should probably move those out of the queue.

In my personal case I do study to become a sports reporter and found in hive the opportunity to develop a little style of what is a sport chronicle.
Although following your last publication, in which you also said that we should add our thoughts, I have put into practice your exhortation.
I agree with what you say as a community we should integrate more.

Your posts are decent and are in the group of 25 that get curated regularly. I am happy you have added your own insights into your posts as that is what sets you apart from the others. We are all different and need to reflect that in our own style and how we write. Somehow we need to e more of a community and need to be more inclusive of everyone.

Based on C&C's recommendation, you now have my follow and I'll top up my SPORTS rewards to your posts.

I believe sportstalksocial is where the most effortless posts are posted and we all know why. Let's hope things will change in time.

Changing curation habits with voting will no doubt change as there is no place for no effort posts as rewards need to be removed going forward.

I’ve already trying my best to curate manually.
I do agree to support new users and I’ve done it. However, I am curious about actifit posts by new users. Do they know that their posts automatically posted on sportstalk?

I don't believe everyone does and have reached out to them to highlight this in discord with their users. There are some excellent actifit posts coming through and hope to see those numbers improve as well. I have noticed you have been trying to manually curate and we all need to do more.

Thank you for being honest with us and your desire to grow this community. About engagements, a lot of us seem to be defaulters including myself. Of recent, I haven't been active generally on Hive but I hope to improve my engagement here in sportstalk community which I will do.

On the issue of match reports, you shouldn't entirely frown at it as they are still sports content. Rather you should be talking about quality of the reviews/ reports. Like you said, personal views and inputs should be added on such posts.

Then on auto-voting, we know that is entirely business and it is a great way for curator's to earn a good ROI being that sportstalk curation rewards depends on "when you upvote a post", that's timing. If you really want to discourage auto-voting, then you should change the curation rewards pattern to linear just like leofinance does.

I agree it was more about the match reports not having any personal inputs which makes a massive difference. When you are trying to vote up content it is just frustrating reading so much stuff that doesn't deserve anymore. We as a community need to improve things and become stronger. Most of the other communities are engaging more and we need to do the same. I am not saying ocd will remove us from their program but we need to do more to show them we are worthy of their support.

Yeah we need to!

Every one of us. So what will you say about my sports contents?

Hello @Cryptoandcoffee, I sincerely thank you for all the efforts you've put into the improvement of contents on Sportstalksocial community. I had promised to start off curating comments engagement but fell sick over the week which led to my inactivity in the community. I'm back and better and will up my game.

We all know how much time curation takes, especially now that I wish to curate comments too. I ask that you dedicate an account that would reblog all selected posts for curation so as to help me easily find them when I have time to curate as well as curate their contents. With Actifit posts posted directly to #sportstalk, it's a huge work searching for posts.

I already have so much work on my desk regarding the Sportstalksocial community which would double or triple the the present price in few weeks. Please help us make the curation.

Thanks once again for all you do and the sincerity in the update.

Ok that sounds good I will do a post every 2 or 3 days so everyone can see what has been put forward for curation. I get the time factor as it does take time and will try and make it easier from now on.

At the end of the day, people can vote for who they want , either positively or negatively. They can also write what they wish providing it's not plagiarism.
Thanks for informing us of your personal preferences which is all they are, but don't arrogantly dictate to others. Set up your own Sports community and run it how you choose if you're unhappy. This isn't 'trying to help the community', it's just dictating to others your views. The 'community' don't appear to be duly unhappy as I don't see any other posts complaining.

@cryptoandcoffee isn't dictating, he is trying to bring up ideas that can move the platform forward.

If you have any problem with Sportstalk, meet @patrickulrich his silence and lack of road map has really put this platform behind schedule.

Thanks to guys like @cryptoandcoffee & @uyobong who held the banner of sports flying high through the dumping era.

Where were you then ?

All I am doing is trying to help and not dictating in any form. We are trying to get the community to improve as there is little to no engagement happening right now. Leo has shown that by upvoting comments and not just voting certain users al the time it grows and adds value.
This is not a complaint in any way and if the value of the token is going to rise things have to improve. I am glad you have commented and voiced your opinions as we have 130 active users out of over 800 accounts.
I have been curating for OCD over the last two months now and trying to guide members of the community so I can put their posts forward to help them and that is what this is about.
You have been here from the beginning with many of us and we are still here because we believe in the community of sports. We have seen it drop down over the last 6 months and we need to try and pick it up again. Having large stake holders just vote on certain posts is not helping the growth and have been asking for help. One or two votes a day looking for new users is not asking for much as I think we can turn things around from where they are now. Currently looking at the stats we have just on 550 interactions which is not great at all.
If you have any ideas they would be helpful as something needs to change. OCD curation has helped raise the member numbers and we need to do something to make this place more lively again.
