Crónicas de los mundiales: Brasil 2014 / World Cup Chronicles: Brasil 2014
Brasil fue la sede de la edición numero 20 del mundial, un torneo de muchas sorpresas y de partidos muy emocionantes, era la segunda vez que el país sudamericano organizaba un mundial, después del muy recordado maracanazo, torneo del que hablaré en mi siguiente post, en 2004 América del Sur fue elegida como sede y en 2007 Brasil fue el único país que seguía postulando y por ende, fue elegido como organizador. el formato de competición fue el mismo, de 32 selecciones y la final fue elegida para jugarse nuevamente en el Estadio Maracaná de Río de Janeiro, el 13 de julio del 2014. Brasil hizo una inversión millonaria en transporte e infraestructura deportiva para estar a la altura de las exigencias de la FIFA, antes, durante y después de la copa se dieron múltiples disturbios en el país en reclamo a la mala designación de los fondos, hubo mucha presencia policial en el torneo.

Los grupos estuvieron muy parejos en el papel y los partidos fueron muy emocionantes, hubieron muchas sorpresas y en general fue una fase de grupos muy entretenida, digna de una competencia de este nivel.

Grupo A
Este grupo estuvo conformado por Brasil, Croacia, México y Camerún, los dos primeros abrieron el mundial con un partido muy disputado y con mucha polémica, Marcelo marcó el primer gol de la competencia en propia puerta, primera vez en la historia que esto sucedía, aun así Brasil venció por 3-1, empató contra México por 0-0 y le ganó 1-4 a Camerún y clasifico como primero de grupo, Mexico avanzó junto con Brasil al empatar con ellos, vencer a Camerún por 1-0 y a Croacia por 1-3, Croacia quedó tercero y Camerún envuelto en escándalos internos se despidió también de la copa.
Group A
This group was formed by Brazil, Croatia, Mexico and Cameroon, the first two opened the World Cup with a very disputed and controversial match, Marcelo scored the first goal of the competition in his own goal, the first time in history that this happened, even so Brazil won 3-1, Mexico advanced together with Brazil by tying with them, beating Cameroon 1-0 and Croatia 1-3, Croatia was third and therefore eliminated and Cameroon, involved in internal scandals and fights among its own players, one of them during the match against Croatia when two players start a fight , also said goodbye to the Cup.

España defendía su titulo pero inició con una dura derrota por 1-5 contra Holanda y cayeron también ante Chile por 0-2, quedando así tercera de grupo y eliminada del torneo, holandeses y chilenos pasaron de ronda, Holanda tuvo puntaje perfecto y Australia lo intentó pero no logró conseguir ni un punto, España se despidió del torneo con una victoria ante los australianos por 4-1 y con un gran gol de David Villa que no sirvió mas que para consolarse.
Group B
Spain defended its title but started with a tough 1-5 defeat against the Netherlands and also fell to Chile by 0-2, thus being third in the group and eliminated from the tournament, the Dutch and Chileans went through the round, the Netherlands had a perfect score and Australia tried but failed to get a point, Spain said goodbye to the tournament with a victory over the Australians that did not serve more than to console themselves.

Colombia y Grecia ganaron un grupo que tuvo un segundo lugar muy disputado, los griegos se metieron a la segunda ronda en el ultimo partido con un penal de Samaras en el ultimo minuto, Costa de Marfil quedó tercera y Japón fue otra de las decepciones al quedar en cuarto lugar con apenas un punto. James Rodriguez se convirtió en la sensación del mundial después de hacer una primera ronda magnifica.
Group C
Colombia and Greece won a group that had a very disputed second place, the Greeks got into the second round in the last game with a last minute Samaras penalty, Ivory Coast was third and almost made it to the second round and Japan was another disappointment by finishing fourth with just one point. James Rodriguez became the sensation of the World Cup after a magnificent first round.
Grupo D
Este grupo fue la gran sorpresa de este mundial, que inició como el grupo de la muerte donde Costa Rica pintaba para eliminacion directa y terminó sorprendiendo a todos al terminar en primer lugar con dos victorias y un empate, Uruguay pasó como segundo de grupo mientras que Inglaterra e Italia fueron las decepciones al quedarse fuera, los italianos solo consiguieron 3 puntos e hicieron un papel muy gris y los ingleses trataron, pero no pudieron con los latinoamericanos.
Group D
This group was the great surprise of this World Cup, which started as the group of death where Costa Rica was expected to be eliminated directly and ended up surprising everyone by finishing in first place with two wins and a draw, Uruguay came second in the group winning two and losing one, while England and Italy were the disappointments by staying out, the Italians only got 3 points and made a very gray role and the English team tried, but could not with the Latin Americans teams.

Suiza, Ecuador, Francia y Honduras compitieron en este grupo, que fue dominado por los europeos, Ecuador quedó tercero y Honduras fue la tercera selección del mundial que no logró puntuar en la primera fase, Benzema fue la estrella de Francia con tres goles mientras que Shaqiri marcó un triplete con Suiza, que mostraba un gran nivel colectivo.
Group E
Switzerland, Ecuador, France and Honduras competed in this group, which was dominated by the Europeans, Ecuador came third and Honduras was the third World Cup team to fail to score in the first round, Benzema was France's star with three goals while Shaqiri scored a hat-trick for Switzerland, which showed a great collective level.
Grupo F
Argentina, Bosnia, Iran y Nigeria disputaron el grupo F, que inició con una victoria de los argentinos ante la debutante Bosnia, Messi marcó cuatro goles en tres partidos para darle el liderato del grupo a su selección, mientras que Nigeria se metió en segundo lugar con un punto mas que Bosnia, Iran acabó cuarto.
Group F
Argentina, Bosnia, Iran and Nigeria played in Group F, which began with a victory for the Argentines against debutants Bosnia, Messi scored four goals in three games to give his team the group lead, while Nigeria came in second place with one more point than Bosnia, Iran finished fourth.
Grupo G
Alemania inició arroyando a Portugal por 4-0, empató luego contra Ghana y obtuvo una apretada victoria contra Estados Unidos por 1-0 para terminar primera de grupo, en el ultimo partido la diferencia de gol favoreció a los norteamericanos que se metieron segundos, con los mismos puntos que Portugal pero con mejor diferencia de goles, Ghana con un punto fue la ultima del grupo. Cristiano Ronaldo solo pudo marcar un gol en esta fase.
Group G
Germany started with a 4-0 defeat of Portugal with three goals from Muller, then tied against Ghana and won a tight victory against the United States by 1-0 to finish first in the group, in the last match the goal difference favored the Americans who came in second, with the same points as Portugal but with a better goal difference, Ghana with one point was last in the group. Cristiano Ronaldo could only score one goal in this phase.
Grupo H
Bélgica, Argelia, Rusia y Corea del Sur se enfrentaron en el ultimo grupo, que fue liderado ampliamente por los belgas, quienes lograron tres victorias, Argelia sorprendió al meterse en segundo lugar y dejar fuera a Rusia, que quedó eliminada junto con Korea, completando asi las 16 selecciones clasificadas.
Group H
Belgium, Algeria, Russia and South Korea faced each other in the last group, which was widely led by the Belgians, who achieved three victories, Algeria surprised by getting into second place and leaving out Russia, which was eliminated along with Korea, thus completing the 16 qualified teams.

Octavos de final / Round of 16.
Los emparejamientos de octavos cruzaron a cuatro de las ocho selecciones clasificadas del continente americano, esas cuatro enfrentadas entre si, de sudamerica.
- Brasil vs Chile.
Brasil sufrió muchísimo para derrotar a la selección chilena, se adelantó en el minuto 18 con un gol de David Luiz pero en el minuto 31 Alexis empató el partido que acabó con ese marcador, en los penales Brasil fue mas acertado y termino avanzando de ronda.
- Colombia vs Uruguay.
James Rodriguez siguió su buen andar en el mundial y con dos goles, uno de ellos una obra de arte, eliminó a Uruguay del torneo, que en este partido no tuvo ninguna oportunidad contra el buen nivel que mostraron los colombianos.
- Mexico vs Holanda.
En el minuto 48 Gio Dos Santos adelantó a México que estaba sorprendiendo a Holanda con su gran nivel, parecía que México rompería su maldición del quinto partido pero en el 88, Sneijder empató el partido y luego de una falta fingida por Robben, Huntelaar marcó el 2-1 definitivo que eliminaba injustamente a México del mundial.
- Costa Rica vs Grecia.
Después de una fase de grupos espectacular, Costa Rica se topó con una férrea defensa griega que dio pelea todo el partido, Bryan Ruiz adelantó a los ticos pero Sokratis empató el partido en el ultimo minuto, en la tanda de penales Keylor Navas se vistió de héroe y le paró un tiro a Gekas y así metió a su país entre los ocho mejores del mundo por primera vez en la historia.
- Francia vs Nigeria.
El partido terminó 2-0 pero eso no hizo justicia al partido que se vio, los africanos se la pusieron muy difícil a Francia, el portero Enyeama fue de héroe a villano luego de hacer muchas grandes paradas y de cometer un error que le sirvió el 1-0 a Pogba a diez minutos del final, Yobo marcó el 2-0 en propia puerta y Nigeria se despidió del mundial.

- Alemania vs Argelia.
Argelia se creció frente a Alemania, que no pudo marcarle gol si no hasta iniciado el tiempo extra, en el 119 Djabou empató el partido para Argelia pero no pudieron seguir adelante, mientras que Alemania si lo hizo.
- Argentina vs Suiza.
Argentina no pudo con los suizos durante los noventa minutos iniciales, pero en la prorroga Messi hizo gala de su calidad tras hacer una gran corrida en la que luego asistió a Di Maria, dándole el 1-0 final que le daba el pase a Argentina.

- Belgica vs Estados Unidos.
Tim Howard rompió un record en este partido, y es que consiguió hacer 16 paradas a los belgas, que no pudieron pasar su valla en los primeros 90 minutos, pero en la prorroga los belgas se adelantaron gracias a De Bruyne y Lukaku, Green puso el 2-1 pero no mas y Belgica pasaba a la siguiente ronda.
The round of 16 pairings pitted four of the eight qualified teams from the American continent against each other, those four from South America.
- Brazil vs Chile.
Brazil suffered to defeat the Chilean team, Brazil score in the 18th minute with a goal by David Luiz but in the 31st minute Alexis tied the match which ended with that score, in the penalty Brazil was more successful and ended up advancing to the round.
- Colombia vs Uruguay
James Rodriguez continued his good run in the World Cup and with two goals, one of them a masterpiece, eliminated Uruguay, which in this match had no chance against the good level shown by the Colombians.
- Mexico vs Holland
In the 48th minute Gio Dos Santos gave Mexico the lead and they were surprising the Netherlands with their high level, it seemed that Mexico would break their curse of the fifth match but in the 88th minute, Sneijder tied the match and after a foul faked by Robben, Huntelaar scored the final 2-1 that eliminated Mexico from the World Cup.

- Costa Rica vs Greece.
After a spectacular group stage, Costa Rica came up against a fierce Greek defense that fought the whole match, Bryan Ruiz gave the Ticos the lead but Sokratis tied the match in the last minute, in the penalty shootout Keylor Navas played the role of hero and saved a shot from Gekas and thus put his country among the eight best in the world for the first time in history.
- France vs Nigeria.

Cuartos de final / Quarterfinals.
Cuatro americanos y cuatro europeos completaron a los ocho finalistas del mundial, los enfrentamientos fueron bastante entretenidos desde el inicio hasta el final, marcando actuaciones muy memorables.
- Brasil vs Colombia.
Thiago Silva puso adelante a Brasil en un partido muy duro y lleno de polémica, justo antes de que David Luiz pusiera el 2-0, el arbitro anuló un gol legal a Yepes, Zuñiga dio un golpe a Neymar que le fracturó una vertebra en la espalda y lo hizo perderse el resto del mundial, James marcó el 2-1 a diez minutos del final pero a Colombia no le alcanzó y Brasil se metía así en semifinales.

- Francia vs Alemania.
Franceses y alemanes tuvieron un tenso partido que se decidió temprano con un gol de hummels, los franceses buscaron el empate durante todo el partido pero Neuer y la defensa alemana frenaron el embate francés y Alemania se metió a semifinales por la mínima.
- Holanda vs Costa Rica.
Estas dos selecciones protagonizaron uno de los duelos mas interesantes del torneo, Keylor Navas y los postes no permitieron a Holanda ponerse adelante en el marcador, en la prorroga Louis Van Gaal le dio entrada a Tim Krul, el portero suplente, que fue decisivo en los penales tras detener dos lanzamientos, dándole el pase a los holandeses.
- Argentina vs Belgica.
Apenas en el minuto 12 Argentina se adelantó con un gran gol de Higuain, que alcanzó para darle el paso a la semifinal a los sudamericanos, Bélgica intentó el resto del partido pero Argentina mostró solidez defensiva.
Four Americans and four Europeans rounded out the eight finalists of the World Cup, and the matches were quite entertaining from start to finish, with some very memorable performances.
- Brazil vs Colombia.
Thiago Silva put Brazil ahead in a very tough match full of controversy, just before David Luiz made it 2-0, the referee disallowed a legal goal to Yepes, Zuñiga gave a blow to Neymar that fractured a vertebra in his back and made him miss the rest of the World Cup, James scored the 2-1 with ten minutes to go but it was not enough for Colombia and Brazil got into the semifinals.
- France vs Germany.
The French and Germans had a tense match that was decided early with a goal by Hummels, the French looked for the equalizer throughout the match but Neuer and the German defense stopped the French onslaught and Germany got into the semifinals by the 1-0.
- Netherlands vs Costa Rica.
These two teams played one of the most interesting duels of the tournament, Keylor Navas and the posts did not allow the Netherlands to take the lead, in the extra time Louis Van Gaal gave the substitute goalkeeper Tim Krul, who was decisive in the penalty shootout after stopping two kicks, giving the pass to the Dutch.
- Argentina vs Belgium.
Just in the 12th minute Argentina took the lead with a great goal by Higuain, which was enough to give the South Americans the passage to the semifinal, Belgium tried the rest of the game but Argentina showed defensive solidity.

Las semifinales cruzaron a sudamericanos y europeos y ambos partidos fueron espectaculares por razones diferentes, Alemania hizo historia contra Brasil y Argentina tuvo una noche memorable para el recuerdo.
- Brasil vs Alemania.
Brasil revivió sus peores pesadillas esa noche frente a Alemania, Neymar lesionado, y Thiago Silva sancionado se quedaron fuera del 11 de Brasil que a la media hora de partido ya perdía por 5-0, ademas Klose superó a Ronaldo como el máximo goleador de los mundiales en este juego y Brasil quedó eliminada con la peor goleada de su historia en mundiales.
- Holanda vs Argentina.
Holandeses y argentinos no pudieron marcar goles en 120 minutos, la defensa se impuso y el partido se fue a penales, esta vez Holanda no pudo sacar su as fue Romero quien se vistió de heroe al parar dos lanzamientos holandeses y llevar asi a Argentina a la final del mundial.
The semifinals pitted South Americans against Europeans and both matches were spectacular for different reasons, with Germany making history against Brazil and Argentina having a memorable night to remember.
- Brazil vs Germany.
Brazil relived its worst nightmares that night, injured Neymar and suspended Thiago Silva were left out of the Brazilian 11 that half an hour into the match and Brazil was already losing by 5-0, besides Klose surpassed Ronaldo as the top scorer of the World Cup in this game and Brazil was eliminated with the worst defeat in its history in the World Cup.
- Netherlands vs Argentina.
The Dutch and Argentines could not score goals in the game, defenses prevailed and the match went to penalties, this time the Netherlands could not get their ace, it was Romero who was the hero, by stopping two Dutch kicks and taking Argentina to the final.

Alemania y Argentina se veían las caras por tercera vez en una final de un mundial, en el 86, Maradona llevó a Argentina al campeonato mientras que en el 90, fueron los alemanes quienes salieron victoriosos, ambos países traían a sus mejores jugadores excepto por la ausencia de Angel Di Maria, que no pudo jugar al sufrir una lesión contra Bélgica, y durante el calentamiento Sami Khedira se cayó de la convocatoria.

Argentina fue el mas determinante en los ataques del partido, en el minuto 17 Kramer tuvo un choque con Garay que le provoco una conmoción y lo hizo salir del partido, Shurrle entró en su lugar, en el 20 Higuain recibió un pase errado de Kross que lo dejó servido para el 1-0 pero el argentino fallo el disparo, nueve minutos después marcó un gol a pase de Lavezzi pero fue anulado por fuera de lugar, y poco antes de terminar el primer tiempo Howedes estrelló un balón en el poste.

comenzada la segunda parte Messi tuvo una ocasión clara pero su disparo se fue a un lado, diez minutos mas tarde Neuer derribó a Higuain en el área pero el arbitro no señaló penalti, en el minuto 90 Shurrle tuvo una clara ocasión pero Romero despejó el balón y el partido se fue a la prorroga, Palacio falló otra ocasión para Argentina y en el minuto 113, el ingresado Andre Shurrle lanzó un centro raso al área que Gotze desvió y se metió en la portería argentina, dándole así a Alemania su cuarto titulo mundial, el primero ganado por un equipo europeo en territorio sudamericano.

James Rodriguez se quedó con la bota de oro del mundial al conseguir seis goles, Klose se quedó con el record de mas goles en mundiales tras marcar 16, quitandole el logro a Ronaldo, Alemania ganó su cuarta copa 24 años despues de lograr la tercera, algo que hizo Brasil (1970-1994) e Italia (1982-2006), tambien quedó para el recuerdo la sancion impuesta a Luis Suarez tras morder a Chiellini en el partido contra Italia, siendo suspendido por 9 partidos y cuatro meses sin jugar y otro dato peculiar, fue que el gobierno de Ghana tuvo que enviar 3 millones de dolares a sus jugadores en un avion para que cobraran lo que se les debia y asi estos no entregaran su partido ante Portugal. El mundial de Brasil fue un gran espectaculo que dejó muchas historias para contar y que abrió la puerta del futbol a la tecnologia, algo que en Rusia 2018 se hizo aun mas notable con el debut del VAR.

Buena noche amigo del Mundial Brasil 2014 tengo varios recuerdos pero los dos principales primero lo cerca que tuvo Leonel Messi de convertirse en campeón del mundo con la selección Argentina y el otro la forma como Alemania despacho a Brasil con ese marcador de 1 - 7 todo un momento trágico para ellos ya que eran locales y aspiraban ganarla.
yo recuerdo mucho este mundial lo disfrute muchisimo, me encantó el golazo de James a Uruguay, fue uno de los mundiales que mas vivi y que mejor recuerdo, una gran epoca de mi vida, muy tragico el 7-1 que recibió Brasil
