Sailing Uma is one of the few smaller long distance vessels we here at Port Sundries know about that have, or had, an electric motor. They had originally wasted money on a diesel they ended up not using and ended up with an electric motor for a long time. It worked wonderfully in sunnier and windier locations like the tropics but now they are in Northern Europe and the winds can be low and the sun does not shine as strong.

Instead we rescued an old beat-up sailboat (1972 Pearson 36), destined for the scrap yard, fixed it up and converted it to an ALL ELECTRIC SAILBOAT by building our own motor, and started our new minimalist life on board."
Goals of Port Sundries
