Over the last couple days I've written about the biggest rivalries in the NBA. Check out Part 1 and Part 2.
We've had David Villa lighting up the derby in New York. Didier Drogba was also ripping it up in the Canadian Classique between Montreal and Toronto. The LA Galaxy and San Jose rivalry is intense and there's often crowd violence between some supporters.
Let's now take a look at the final three! Can you guess which rivalries are the biggest three in the MLS of all time?
3. Atlantic Cup
DC United and New York Red Bulls were always going to have one of the biggest MLS rivalries considering Washington and New York have fierce rivalries in the NFL and NHL. Since being first played in 2002 the Atlantic Cup has developed into one of the fiercest derbies in the MLS
Both clubs having among the largest and oldest supporter groups in the league. In 2006 DC United's Alecko Eskandarian fuelled the rivalry by celebrated a goal by sipping and spitting out a Red Bull energy drink.

2. El Trafico
The rivalry between Los Angeles' two clubs LA Galaxy and LAFC is one of two crosstown derbies, New York's Hudson River derby the other one. The two clubs are separated by a 12-mile stretch of freeway and the derby name is a play on LA's notorious traffic
In the first ever El Trafico in 2018 LAFC gave up a 3-0 lead when one of the best MLS players of all time* Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored the goal of the season and an injury time winner to lead the Galaxy to a 4-3 win.

1. Battle of Cascadia
The Seattle Sounders and Portland Timbers are the biggest MLS rivals and play out the Battle of Cascadia derby. The Pacific-Northwest giants are considered the greatest rivals in American soccer and the game day atmosphere has been compared to that of English Premier League derbies.
The two have been rivals since 1975 during the NASL days and the teams have built quite a storied history with each other. There's deep resentment between the two sets of fans with the teams facing frighteningly hostile receptions during away games.

Very cool series! Really enjoyed getting to know these interesting rivalries in a league that is not very well known in Europe :)
Those games between LA Galaxy and LAFC with Ibrahimovich and Carlitos Vela on the pitch for each side were memorable. Great derby matches for the city of Los Angeles to enjoy!
